As part of its CLASSIC ALBUM series, FTD is pleased to announce the release of the original soundtrack album for “KISSIN’ COUSINS.” It features unreleased outtakes, rarities and an informative illustrated 16-page booklet with rare memorabilia, movie trivia and photos. Due to the small amount of existing outtakes (as Elvis didn’t record with the band) it includes instrumental masters recorded at the RCA Studio in Nashville that show the great musicianship of the players.

FTD June Releases

ROUSTABOUT (1-CD)

ALBUM SALES TIPS FROM RCA VICTOR
(Special album release for November 1964)

We’ve had original soundtrack recordings by Elvis in the past and we needn’t dwell on their great success, but the new “ROUSTABOUT” album is undoubtedly on of the finest we’ve had!  “It’s A Wonderful World” and “Big Love Big Heartache” are delivered smoothly to a smooth Latin-flavored accompaniment. Moist of the tunes however, are the hard-rocker variety, especially “Hard Knocks and “There’s A Brand New Day On The Horizon.” For a special gas, check out the lyrics on “Little Egypt” and “Poison Ivy League.”  We’ve got great music, a great cover, the movie tie-in, advertising and promotion support.

53 years later, FTD is pleased to announce the long awaited “Classic Album” version of “ROUSTABOUT”. Reaching #1 on Billboard in February 1965, it would Elvis’ last chart topping album until “ALOHA FROM ELVIS VIA SATELLITE” in 1973. Packaged in 7” format with a full color 16-page memorabilia booklet, it contains previously unreleased material and the recently discovered “I’m A Roustabout” track.

2 NEW FTD Releases For February

A DATE WITH ELVIS, released in July 1959, was the second of three compilation albums released by RCA while Elvis was serving in the U.S. Army. The aim of all three albums, apart from keeping Elvis’ name in the public eye, was to collect recordings that had only been out on 45 rpm records in order to take advantage of the fast growing Long Playing album market. This 7” digipack 2-CD set also features stereo masters and ‘fly-on-the-wall’ persona; recordings made during his Army time in Germany.

FTD Releases October

ELVIS GOLD RECORDS VOL. 4” (2-CD)

It was 10 years after the release of Elvis’ Golden Records in 1958, that RCA Victor released Elvis’ Gold Records Volume 4. It contained seven ‘B’ sides and only five ‘A’ sides. Whether at the behest of Colonel Tom Parker, or RCA, the philosophy of not including tracks that already featured on existing albums weakened what could have been a more powerful and hit-laden compilation. Although omitted from Volume 3 for the same reason, the addition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, “Return To Sender” would surely have enhanced it’s sales potential and the inclusion of “Crying In The Chapel” (albeit included on How Great Thou Art in 1967) should have provided the icing on the cake. However, for dedicated Elvis fans, it was still rewarding to get these songs on a long- playing album for the first time such as “Love Letters”, “It Hurts Me” and “A Mess Of Blues”. Other hits that could have featured are added to Disc 1 as bonus tracks and Disc 2 features the entire original album in glorious mono!

“HOW RCA BROUGHT ELVIS TO EUROPE”
(FTD BOOKS)

This beautifully designed book contains unseen pictures and follows Elvis ascent from hottest act in The South via US stardom to becoming RCA Victor's spearhead as the company launched the RCA label worldwide in 1956. It goes on to show how Europe was completely won over by the early 1960's.

The earliest international Elvis records are listed, and there is a guide to identify Elvis records from all European countries, including a summary of the earliest releases from each country. There are complete illustrated discographies (including variants) for all Nordic countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. There is also a guide to first pressings of the 47 Elvis EP's released in Germany for sale in Northern Europe.

Elvis' reception in the Nordic countries is covered by a wealth of press cuttings, local film flyers and posters, ads, premiere dates, pictures and stories from handovers of Swedish and Norwegian record awards, and much previously unknown record company history. Among many revelations, the most surprising is perhaps how the Swedish company Electra engineered most of the Elvis activity taking place in Northern Europe.

Spliced in between are many amusing short stories, like when three Nordic Royal Princesses sought out Elvis on the set of G.I. Blues, or how the man behind RCA in Belgium started out smuggling records in the wings of his WW2 Royal Air Force Spitfire. Or the time Norway's bestselling crooner met Elvis in RCA Studios on the day Hound Dog was recorded.

The story behind German Teldec's earliest Elvis releases is completely rewritten along the way, and for record collectors there are many new discoveries – like why do records from some countries come with push-out centers while others have large center holes. Or how can it be that up to three different label variants may occur within the same print run. Or why were Europe's earliest 45-singles sold in Sweden only and why did Denmark and Norway, each with tiny populations, issue respectively 46 and 56 different Elvis records?

And did Elvis really pose a threat to communist Eastern Europe when he served as a US Soldier in West Germany? Boy, he sure did. All these topics and plenty more are covered in How RCA Brought Elvis to Europe. And not to be forgotten: free with the book's first edition comes an UNRELEASED 1956 VINYL EP.

The book is written by Norwegians Sigbjørn Stabursvik and Hans Otto Engvold, supported by a network of experts from fourteen countries. Stabursvik knows things about records that most people don't, while Engvold is a hound for detail in all things Elvis. Together they bring new insights on practically every page of this excellent book.

“ELVIS GOLDEN RECORDS VOL. 3” (2-CD)

“ELVIS GOLDEN RECORDS VOL. 3” is a new 2-CD release in our classic album series. It features a 7” digipack with 12-page booklet. By the time Elvis' Golden Records Vol. 3 was released in August 1963, no one in rock ‘n’ roll up to that point, other than Elvis, had ever legitimately earned a second ‘greatest hits’ volume, much less a third. It also embodied the best commercial examples of Presley’s new post-Army maturity, as both vocalist and musician, and the songs featured on this album achieved an unparalleled level of global chart success by any artist between 1960 and 1963.

Track Lsting for LIVE A LITTLE, LOVE A LITTLE

Here below the latest info from FTD:
Find included the track listing for LIVE A LITTLE, LOVE A LITTLE
As speculation on the various boards have suggested, we did manage to find the session tapes for this movie, and we believe we have a very attractive release here.
The search also revealed that what the “clever people” thought, and that will definitely include me (Ernst), was wrong. The vocal for A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION on the version used for the re-mix single, was not recorded for the TV special – it’s actually take 2 of the song with the ending repaired. You can always learn something new!!!

Unfortunately, these tapes were the only ones we found from the MGM movies, and whereas proving something exists, is easy, it’s not easy to do the opposite. At this time we have exhausted our options to find these tapes – they would be in private hands if they survived.
Meanwhile, here’s something to look forward to

Elvis’ Golden Records (2 CD) FTD 135

With U.S. sales of more than six million, and an even higher figure for rest of world, ELVIS’ GOLDEN RECORDS is Elvis’ biggest selling album except for his 1970 budget album ELVIS’ CHRISTMAS ALBUM. It was complied from eight #1 A-sides, along with five B-sides and the track “Love Me” from his second LP ELVIS. Collectively they represent more than 20 million singles sold in the USA alone, resulting in 17x platinum certifications. Elvis' best-selling EP ELVIS (EPA 992) sold more than one million copies in the USA and was RIAA certified double platinum. For this FTD release we have added four songs that easily could have been included; “Blue Suede Shoes,” “My Baby Left Me,” “I Was The One” and “Playing For Keeps.” Additionally, stereo versions available in RCA’s vault are added of four songs from the album. Unfortunately, most of the outtakes from the sessions that produced these songs have been lost, so the bonus disc includes all the outtakes of four songs recorded during the period in January 1957.

Wolper Production of an Andrew Solt/Malcolm Leo Film for Warner Bros. release. Written, directed and produced by Solt and Leo (best known for their television special Heroes OF Rock and Roll). The film follows innovations first introduced by producer Wolper, whose 650 films include the Emmy-winning Roots and the Oscar winning The Hellstrom Chronicle. With the unprecedented cooperation of those who best new Presley, the film combines rare, never-before-seen footage, privately owned kinescopes from TV’s early years, remarkable outtakes from Presley’s movies and accurate recreations of pivotal moments in his life. FTD Releases August 2014

“ELVIS FOR EVERYONE” (2CD)
This 2-disc 7” set celebrates 1965’s classic album “ELVIS FOR EVERYONE.”
The original press release posted by RCA in August 1965 says, “This is the first Elvis Presley album since 1962 [POT LUCK] that is not a movie soundtrack album.” In this new album, Presley demonstrates great versatility by singing a wide range of songs, familiar and unfamiliar, slow ballads and hard-driving rock’’n’rollers. Only one of these songs has ever been issued before (“Summer Kisses, Winter Tears”). The lead off-song, “Your Cheatin’ Heart.” Is the title song of the new movie based on the life of Hank Williams., currently playing throughout the country … ..Varied repertoire and Elvis in top form make this really Elvis For Everyone.”

Although it was complied from previously unreleased recordings, it appeared like a breath of fresh air to Elvis fans that had become somewhat tired of the formulaic soundtracks. The LP hit to the top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic.
This 2-CD classic edition features insightful essays, rare memorabilia and great outtakes!
It also features the rare overdubbed version of “Wild in The Country” that featured maracas and additional bass guitar. Although, the source remains a mystery to this day, it was supplied to RCA-UK for its stereo version of the album as a replacement for “Summer Kisses.” This track had been issued two months before on RCA-UK’s unique album, Flaming Star And Summer Kisses.
Apart from OPTIONAL MASTERS that could have been used, DISC 2 contains 23 Previously Unreleased Outtakes from the ‘60s!!!!!!

“BEST OF BRITISH – THE RCA YEARS 1957-1959

This is Elvis, with the continuation of the British story now detailing his RCA releases from 1957 - 1958.
As a companion to the critically acclaimed and highly successful ‘Elvis: The Best Of British - The HMV Years’, this book contains the full history of over FIFTY iconic Elvis songs initially released by RCA in Great Britain. Again, each song has been thoroughly researched to the same high standards and is graphically catalogued.

Containing over 1000 illustrations, unpublished photographs and charts, together with rare items of memorabilia, this volume of ‘The RCA Years’ moves the story forward to explicitly reveal previously unknown facts and additional British connections to the songs.
Within these 500 pages and amongst many formerly unknown fascinating facts, you will discover:
The English pub that inspired an Elvis song!
Exactly where and when Elvis learned to play piano!
The real life characters contained within the lyrics of Jailhouse Rock!
The CD included with this book features many first-time officially released Elvis tracks. Here, amongst his classic songs, are the songwriters’ demo recordings as Elvis first heard them, plus the message he recorded on his home answer machine!
‘The RCA Years (1957 - 1958)’ chronicles the meteoric rise in Great Britain of the ‘Sun King’ to the man who would ultimately be crowned ‘Artist Of The 20th Century’.

Two New FTD's

FTD is pleased to announce its new June 2014 releases. Both “THE RETURN TO VEGAS” and “NASHVILLE TO MEMPHIS ‘61” will be shipped last week of June.

“THE RETURN TO VEGAS” (CD)

This is the official release of the soundboard recording that Joan Deary planned as a double album release back in the late seventies. It’s the earliest known professional recording from Elvis’ 1969 engagement in Las Vegas. The original tape box has “opening night” written on the back, but that’s not the real date. Some experts believe it’s from August 3, but we have no information what so ever to suggest a certain date. However, the arrangements seem to suggest that this show is definitely several days earlier than the shows RCA recorded from August 20 and onwards. Why Joan Deary edited and mastered this for release is another mystery, since she off course had all the shows RCA recorded on 8-track tape with audio in substantially better quality.
This release comes in a 7” digi-pack with a 12-pages booklet, featuring great photos from the collections of Steve Barile & Jim Patino, and a foreword by Ken Sharp

Tracklisting:
01 Blue Suede Shoes 2:20 02 I Got A Woman 3:20 03 All Shook Up 3:07 04 Love Me Tender 2:38 05 Jailhouse Rock / Don't Be Cruel 2:44 06 Heartbreak Hotel 2:22 07 Hound Dog 4:48 3:57 08 Memories 3:12 09 Mystery Train / Tiger Man 5:26 10 Monologue 3:59 11 Baby, What You Want Me To Do 3:04 12 Are You Lonesome Tonight? 3:15 13 Yesterday / Hey Jude 5:11 14 Introductions 4:39 15 In The Ghetto 4:14 16 Suspicious Minds 8:21 17 What’d I Say 4:30 18 Can’t Help Falling In Love 2:30

FTD Books and Flaming Star, in association with EPE, will release a new book – “Memphis To Nashville ’61” – in late June. This will give a comprehensive account of the two Memphis charity shows that Elvis performed at the Ellis Auditorium on a cold day in February 1961.

The book includes accounts of that day and the events leading up to it. It features accounts from Elvis’ musicians, friends and fans, magazine- and newspaper articles from the time, and many rare and newly-discovered photographs. The collection of over 100 unpublished photographs, most of them in black and white, have been collected from many different sources; some are from original negatives whilst others are from original prints. Also included in the book is a section on Elvis’ visit to Nashville on March 8, 1961, less than two weeks after the benefit shows of February 25, to receive an honorary colonelship from the Governor of Tennessee, Buford Ellington. Furthermore, the final part of the volume includes information and details relating to the recording sessions held on March 12 and 13, 1961 that provided most of the tracks for the classic LP, “Something For Everybody”. As an added bonus, the book comes with a CD containing the mono version of “Something For Everybody” plus recordings of Elvis’ press conference, held at the Hotel Claridge in Memphis on February 25, 1961, and of the presentation of honours at the Tennessee State Capitol just 11 days later.

The Best of British

A new FLAMING STAR production:
ELVIS: “The Best of British” – The HMV Years 1956-1958
440 pages hardcover book including 2 CD’s

ELVIS - “THE BEST OF BRITISH” – The HMV Years 1956-1958
Written by Trevor Simpson

This is the story of EVERY song by Elvis released on the British HMV label. It is an eclectic mix of graphic illustrations of the labels, the charts and rare memorabilia through 1956 - 1958.
Thorough research of each song and songwriter has taken many years and provides the definitive history of the music that shook the world, sensationally revealing many previously unknown facts and British connections to Elvis and his music.

The book contains over 1000 rare and unpublished photographs, the illustrations connected to the songs, the recordings and the promotion of Elvis by HMV in Britain.

Included, and officially gathered together for the FIRST TIME on two exclusive CDs, is every Elvis track released by HMV. Added to these are bonus songwriter demos and Elvis outtakes to complete the audio story upon which the foundation of the global popular music culture and industry was built.

This is Elvis and the story of the impact of The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Great Britain.
