1980 Young 'un Sound cassette dub restorations
Back in 2018 ace fan Juan Luis very generously uploaded a slew of previously unreleased material from the 1980 Young 'un Sound Nashville sessions produced by Felton Jarvis.
Sourced from audio cassette [Type 1, I believe] review tapes apparently purchased from the Jarvis estate.
Although transferred only in the MP3 format [of course, entirely his prerogative], they provided an intriguing listening experience.
And as acceptable as the audio quality certainly was/is [Jarvis had copies done at Chip Young's, Young 'un Sound studio itself], they also had their limitations.
With that being said, audio restoration has come on in leaps and bounds in more recent years, so I always felt something better could be done to enhance them.
And this was largely done by using a multitude of sources in combination with some tonal shaping, processing and speed/pitch correction fixes.
Whilst certainly not "master tape" quality, there are some notable and audible advancements evident here, that I think fans will recognize and moreover, enjoy.
All tracks that are possible to be restored will be uploaded in chronological [1980] recording order.
01. "In the Ghetto" - January 24, 1980 - vocal & basic track mix
Note: Guitar, keyboard [replacement] and original 1969 female backing vocal overdubs appear on FTD's, Too Much Monkey Business

Re: 1980 Young 'un Sound cassette dub restorations
I really like some of the songs JL shared 5-6 years ago.
Help Me with the GB and guitar overdub is among my favorites.
Strange but this version seems to be a fogotten one as it wasnt included on the bootlegs
that ive heard with material from the JL collection.
Only slighty downside was that sound quality varied A LOT.

Wow fantastic, great work on both tracks, never heard this versions before, In The Ghetto is like a brand new recording. How many more recordings is
in the can from these cassette tapes?
in the can from these cassette tapes?
Re: 1980 Young 'un Sound cassette dub restorations
Wow, I did not expect that.
A huge improvement, very nicely done,
Not to get greedy, but have you ever tried or think about to improve the Pearl Harbor show or some of those home recordings some also shared by JL. Don't know if that is even possible because of the limited audio quality but i think these are worth every improvement possible.

Those six additional tracks are unreleated to the 1980 Guitar Man sessions.Nora Sivle wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 10:26 amI still see a few tracks that I'm unfamiliar with.. Unofficial releases were often appeneded with random recordings [see other example below].

Re: 1980 Young 'un Sound cassette dub restorations
Fantastic job on what you have graciously shared with us. Funny, I find myself appreciating this album more today than I did back in the early 80's. As I sit here listening to your latest share, I recall an article somewhere that stated Felton wanted to do a full-on "duets" album with the likes of Neil Diamond, the Gatlin Brothers, Dolly Parton etc. I wonder if some of these tracks (like the version of "Guitar Man" with Jerry Reed) were the start of a second project that Felton started before his death.
Again, thank you for your time and for sharing the results. Tip of the cap to Juan as well.

Joe Krein interview with Sherril Nielsen: "YOU KNOW YOU FORGET HOW GOOD HE REALLY WAS. I SAID MY GOODNESS. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE WITH HIM YOU ARE SO WRAPPED UP DOING THE SHOW, BUT HERE NOW 20 YEARS LATER, I HEAR HIM AND REALIZE WHAT A GREAT TALENT HE WAS. HE WAS THE REAL DEAL.

05. "I'm Movin' On" - January 25, 1980 - vocal (alternate) & basic track mix
Note: Core of rhythm track was recycled for the eventual October recording album master (original guitar parts were replaced and backing vocals were overdubbed)
