we need a cd of the 1968 tv special recording sessions from western recorders studios.
not the sit down or stand up shows or the tapings but the sessions that were done for the road medley, gospel recordings, trouble/guitar man.

Well, if they've got anything we haven't heard from those sessions, we should get it.

But it isn't a priority !

Nice to see your interest in elephants, but don't tigers attack them ?

I take your point Ritchie (sorry for plane crash), but after playing the '68 out-takes like Saved & Trouble-Guitar Man I could handle my cool-lection being furnished by an FTD (preferrably a double) of similar takes. Elvis lets loose!

Actually they don't, unless they are sick and can't defend themselves. The elephants size scares them off. Just think of tigers as an over aggressive Colonel Parker, but cooler.

In India maybe but those darned African Elephants are too massive. Ain't no tigers in Africa either.

Also, lions are terrified of Hippopotamuses 8)

These pictures below of Elvis taken at Western Recorders on June 23rd,1968 are pretty common now.

ImageImage

This one, not so much though.

Image

And THIS.....

Well, new to me (different day) and from Steve Binder's "Elvis : 68 at 40 Retrospective" book published by JAT in 2008. I was looking at the studio, seeing if there was anyone to recognize, and, there was Elvis. Complete with his slip-on shoes, white trousers and wearing glasses. Cool....!

Image

Now called EASTWEST Recording studios, it's quite a place these days complete with a luxury VIP room, they can even supply you with a massage and a facial.

Elvis used Studio One
ImageImage

It would have looked more like this though 44 years ago.

Western Recorders Studio, 6000 West Sunset Boulevard Hollywood, California 90028 - circa 1966

Here is a small list of these who have recored there, they include: Would Elvis had ever thought his 5 month year old daughter would ever record there in the furture?

Two thoughts:

(1) Would you post this up as a new topic? It deserves it!

(2) Would you upload your larger images as attachments?

That way they don't wreck the dimensions of the forum, as you may see below:

Seriously, how much is an hour? It doesn't look cheap. But wow! To be there . . . absolutely chilling. If it was within reason, at some point, I'd like to just bring a guitar and bang out "Let Yourself Go"! (Can't go wrong, really, with that one! )

And yes, of course, the roster is impressive. I guess, because it's such wonderful condition, they don't need to do museum tours. (To-do list: restring guitar.)

P.S. -- Julian, if they're high enough resolution, they are automatically clickable, sometimes twice, because it zooms later. I don't know the exact numbers. There is a limit, though: you can't upload, like 14 MB files, but normal hi-res files just do that - I don't know the resolution number.

Yes. Heard of Venus. (The label, not just the planet. ;) )

NEVER knew such a record existed! (mouth standing open) I think I'd consider trading a foot for that! I think I know where to look, though. THANK YOU!

Talk about "visions of sugarplums" dancing in your head!

(Yes I have "Let Yourself Go." Which means all of what I saw is not coming out through above-board.)

I missed out on the CD boot era. Long story. I just didn't know how to correctly utilize the 'net, I guess. There were a lot of personal distractions and BMG/Sony and then FTD seemed to offer waterfalls of thrilling stuff. I was still listening to my vinyl boots. (I STILL do, truthfully. They're good.)

Remember, I had dial-up 'till late LAST YEAR.

So, yeah, I missed a lot.

While we are on this topic, there are a lot of takes from the NBC sessions from June 30th that have never been on CD, a few takes of various songs appeared on the Golden Archives LP/CD 'The 68' Comeback'.

I made my own cd-r of these sessions with the audio lifted from the complete DVD set.

Julian Grant's post is fantastic, but for those answering the topic: this is from 2005. No Venus label back then.

So yes, I'm sure we heard of Venus in 2012.
