Police film question

Sun Jul 06, 2008 2:59 pm

There are a few police film clips of Elvis in various concerts in 56-57 and I'm wondering if anyone has researched into the police film archives to see if there more clips. Maybe some police department filmed a complete concert! I have emailed Louisville police department to ask if they've got more film of Elvis at the Armory in 1956 but I've had no reply yet.

Good Luck in your pursuit Gary. Matt, another Board Member and I have wrote to several Stations asking about old Footage -- some are helpful -- some are just not bothered I'm afraid.

I'm sure the police films are fake. Just normal fan footage if you ask me.

Even if it was just the footage and no audio, i'm sure someone with the talent could synch some good music to the video...

Heck, around here the news stations don't even have the footage of them demolishing Market Square Arena anymore and that's only been about 7 years ago. But that's ok I have found someone who has that :D It's really hard telling what people might be holding onto though. We can only hope, it would deffinately be cool to see

In the case of "This Is Elvis" -- you are correct. It's not police footage.

Actually it is no one business if the police has footage or not. What you want them to release it or something? Also, if you ask abot footage do you honestly think they will tell you if they have it or not?

Answer to both, NO!!!!

As for This Is Elvis, that footage is not police footage. Elvis was filmed b Police and he even said it himself in 68 special but no footage has been seen at all and may never be seen by the public.

Actually the answer more often than not is YES!!!!.

Have you ever phoned a Television Station elvislennon to ask about footage?

Hey if the shows really were filmed then that footage has to be around somewhere...most likely in the hands of a private collector.

Just had this reply-
With regard to your inquiry regarding LMPD film archives, we do not maintain video footage unless is it part of a current an ongoing criminal investigation or court case. Regrettably we no longer have any footage of the Elvis Presley concert to which you have referred.

Ummm, Heads Up!!! Television Station and Police Station are two completely different places.

I can see someone ask a televison station for footage but you will never make me see why someone will ask the Police on what footage they have. It is none of no one business at all. The footage is considered as evidence because of the time period and what he did on stage and they won't release anything like that to anyone. And it is really no one business if they have it or not and they will certainly not tell you if they have it or not.

That is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. If I was a police and someone ask about stuff like that I would tell them to get a life and stop calling here about that.

You must be having a bad day.

There's nothing wrong with asking the person who runs the police department archives how far back they store such items. A serious historian leaves no stone unturned, and a professional police department always fields such requests with polite professionalism.

elvislennon: what buisness is it of yours to imply I haven't got a life? I politely enquired about the footage and they replied back; it didn't involve you. I started this this thread because I wondered if anyone else tried asking about the footage. You also say it's nobody's else buisness to see the footage as it's evidence. I disagree. It's not evidence as that police department never brought a court case against Elvis and, as he is dead, they never will. So your arguement that it is evidence doesn't stack up.

That's a pity garydt, but unfortunately not uncommon. It seems that people who were lucky enough to have footage in their possession a long time ago, professionally or otherwise, don't realise the historic importance of it to us Elvis fans. Don't let it put you off though, and don't give up trying.

Umm, it is considered as evidence for the reason of the way Elvis acted on stage. They filmed him for the reason that people thought Elvis' dancing was not for the public to see. It was considered offensive so the police filmed shows to have evidence to see if it was offensive or not. That is why it was and still evidence and wil never be seen by anyone. Personally, I hope it is not release because they would filmed the shows without sound and maybe only a couple of minutes anyway.

Your right Doc, he must be having a bad day indeed

I'm going to be laughing my ass off at this comment the day the footage is finally out in the public eye

It's actually just newsreel footage.

However, this November 25, 1956 film is incredible to look at, even more exciting than the Tupelo material exactly eight weeks earlier. The parallels between 1956 and his return to touring in 1970 are kind of eerie, from the stage mannerisms to the never ending flashbulbs.

Man, if only I had a time machine ...

That place looks awfully large to be the 6000 seat Louisville Gardens (Armory), though the exterior shots match
