Post by KingElvis »

Listening to latest FTD and it seems that suspicious minds on disc2 is the same one from old
behind closed doors boot?Officially released at last :D
Can anyone confirm this?
EDIT:
My VLC player displayed wrong running time on this track.

There was a very good debate as to whether it was from the first or second Vegas season.

Behind Closed Doors (Audifon Records AFNS 66072-4) - 1979

The classic 1979 Audifon bootleg cites February 16, 1970, but I'll be all ears when listening to CD2's previously-unreleased August 22, 1969 DS.

That was the date written on the acetate - Possibly the date the acetate was 'Cut'

As far as I can tell - The "Behind Closed Doors" version of 'Suspicious Minds' and the new August 22 Dinner Show version are identical performances up to "...Lie to you" (at 2:00 of "BCD" / 2:08 of "EIP-FTD"), it is then spliced (From "Uuuhhh, uhhhhh, Yeah, yeah" onwards) with an as yet unknown performance of the song.

Hello!

I remembered this very well. It has been an ongoing mistake in the Elvis world. It fooled many Elvis fans, this manipulated track on Behind Closed Doors.

Even you, Keith..:-)
("The date written on the acetate used for "Behind Closed Doors" nailed it for me - And it wasn't 1969! - Sorry Eagle")

It is found here:
http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33578&start=0

Now, as you say yourself Keith; the correct date for this track is August 22 1969 (though the Behind Closed Doors version has been axed, spliced and yes...manipulated in many ways)

Another puzzle laid to rest. It is always a good thing...:-)

Well it's half laid to rest Oven - We still don't know which show(s) the rest of the "Behind Closed Doors" version come from yet

I would assume that all of it comes from Aug 22, not just the first good 2 minutes. Just edited and spliced. But I will have to check the whole song again during the weekend. If it is a splice of two shows (why should it be?), then hopefully we have the other version available somewhere.

Later some time..:-)

I hope you have more luck than I did Oven - I couldn't match up the rest of the "Behind Closed Doors" version with any 1969 performance released up to now!

I never knew the 'Behind Closed Doors' version was cut whatsoever - I've always found this the best performance of 'Suspicious Minds' ever, it's perfect.
I couldn't match the other part either, seems like it's from a unreleased soundboard.

over the years many fans have said the BCD version was edited due to the fact that its much shorter than any other 69` live versions.
