Speeding it up by 1.5% and an EQ rebalance fixes the main issue with this release to an extent, still pretty bad in some spots but overall far better than the poor mastering done by Lene.

A comparison between my remaster and Lene's mastering attempt: https://voca.ro/14r8Ow0JCznI

It's a solid show, Elvis is in a great mood and gives us a handful of highlights such as Trying To Get To You, America, Polk Salad Annie, Hurt, How Great Thou Art. Such a shame it's been ruined with a poor mix.
agreed there, i dont think the show is really bad, it's just the mix that's terrible.
I have this show in my collection but have ever actually listened to it. Your revised mix is much better!

What software did you use to make the adjustment? Did you do the whole show?
I recently did listen to the "Verve" release of this show, previously the most offending song mix was awful/unbearable during "If you love me (let me know)" now it is just about bearable but only just so. It is an improvement but not a dramatic one.

I find that Verve managed to decrease the level of the backing singers reasonably well, but unfortunately at the expense of sound quality, there's a nasty amount of background noise present on the Verve release, and not just the tape hiss, I assume it's due to the audio tampering. So I think the FTD sounds better in terms of overall audio quality, but the Verve release has a better balance for sure

I'm still loving the Richmond gig on the Legacy, Live on Stage in Memphis. I only have a basic stereo but man there's a lovely warm sound on the bonus cd with some beautiful vocals from Elvis, I think I prefer it to the Memphis show which doesn't sound as good as it did on the old vinyl pressing.

I am listening to ”Coming On Strong” as we speak. Fixin’ to listen to the West Palm Beach part of this CD and then move on to something else. Elvis does sound tired and out of shape, but there is something about these 1977 shows that I like. I think ”And I Love You So” is just beautiful here. Is it a perfect performance? Well, no. But it’s straight from the heart. 100 % SOUL! Also, he did a great version of ”Reconsider Baby” in 1977. It sounds nothing like the 1960 version but it is damn good for other reasons.

The technical information on the back of the CD made me smile:

”Both solo versions by Sherril Nielsen from the West Palm Beach performance had to be left out due to bad distortion (who cares...)”

Sounds like something the great Ger Rijff could have written! 😀

And these perfomances by sherril would find their way to the great fort baxter boxset "A Profile, The King On Stage Volume 1" the only place to find the soundboard recordings of those songs.. and they're not distorted

Gave it another listen, I'm currently listening to the afternoon performance. I wonder why it wasn't released together.

I gave the Sioux Falls show another listen this weekend. This is a good show and the sound is very good as well. Very entertaining throughout.

However, Elvis just simply runs out of gas and calls it quits after Kathy's song.

It’s a real good one, better than the October shows in my opinion, and better than at least 2-3 tours before

I agree, although I definitely like those October shows too and find that tour one of the most consistent of 1976/77. It's funny actually, because I've never liked the evening show in Huntsville the next night very much though while I do like the afternoon show from that day.

Just listened to The Alternate Aloha CD from ’88 and I realized that it is actually Elvis we hear from backstage just prior to the start of the 2001 theme. I never realized he had a mike backstage but he gives the go ahead to start the show. Cool stuff for a nerd like me. I still think the sound on this CD is pretty weird and I prefer the Legacy 2CD from 2013 or even the 2DVD Deluxe Edition from 2004 :smt006

Yes, that Elvis bit before the start is cool indeed. This show is one the weirdest sounding around. I appreciate what they were trying to do back then, but the result was/is awful.
