Very sad news indeed, although he did famously say (in true Prince Philip fashion) that he "couldn't think of anything worse" than living to 100.

RIP

RIP Prince Philip. He led an amazing life and was a positive force in the lives of many others through his Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.

He made some great quips. During a state visit to Australia with The Queen he was interviewed by Customs on arrival. The Customs Officer said ‘I’m sorry Sir but I have to ask you the same questions I have to ask everyone. Do you have a Criminal Record’? The Duke replied ‘I didn’t realize it was still a requirement’? RIP.

I saw the Duke and HM one night in Central London many years ago when I was at university. I'd had a long liquid lunch in the Cheshire Cheese and was ambling back to Charing Cross when I saw the royal cavalcade approaching. I remember stopping, slightly squiffy, waving and seeing the back of the Queen's head as the old boy raised his hand.

Did any of you ever see him? Apparently 20% of Brits had.

Yep! Back in 2012 at the Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant alongside much of the main 'core' royals, a magical day for a 10 year old me, albeit at quite a distance though, but some nice old ladies let me through right to the front so I could get a front row view.

I thought the funeral of HRH Prince Philip was an amazing occasion given the circumstances. He would have been proud. You had to feel for The Queen though. No widow of 73 years should have to go through that, Queen or not. These COVID restrictions are inhuman.

Mad isn't it. You can go to a boozer or restaurant with your mates, albeit outside, yet HM was left alone at the funeral of her husband of over 70 years.

It was indeed very saddening to see her having to sit by herself, a very emotional day for sure...
