How do you distinguish one from the other ?

The one you like best is your favourite, surely ?

That is true, Colin, and it’s not easy. But let me put it this way: The August/September 1974 Vegas stand is one of my favorites, because I find it very interesting, and I find the following tour almost equally interesting. That does not mean this is the best Vegas season from a musical standpoint. Far from it. It’s the same with songs. You cannot let your personal taste get in the way of your objectivity as a reviewer. Many people make the mistake of confusing taste with best, or taste with quality. I love "Why Me, Lord?" from August 21, 1974 MS, but it’s not a great performance. It sucks musically, but I enjoy the humor of it.

Ken Jensen wrote:This poll was created to nominate the BEST track on the LP, not people’s personal favorites. That disqualifies vocal dross such as "Help Me" or well-sung performances such as "Mr. Songman" and "Love Song of the Year".

The live version of "Help Me" is another matter entirely, although it cannot compare to "How Great Thou Art", which is the best track on the Memphis concert.
So my opinion doesn't count, does it?

Great, another know-it-all who thinks his opinion is more valid than everyone else's.

I don’t offer my opinion. Instead, I offer a view that is as objective as possible. My personal favorite may not be the best track on the LP, and if that is the case, I don’t vote for it.

And if that's what you choose to do, you are free to do so - just as I am free to vote for my personal favorite. I'm not into this splitting hairs routine "I like this song best, but it's not the best song", blah blah blah. I don't need no self appointed critic to tell me what is good and what is bad. I like what I like. You don't have to like the same things I like, gee, what a boring world it would be if we all had to listen to the same music from the "officially approved music list".

This one's a no brainer really, isn't it. Clearly "Love Song of the Year" is the superior selection.

Well then, strange how you [along with everyone else] haven't voted for it.

I went for Promised Land, but Honky Tonk Angel was a real close second, with You Ask Me To also in the running.

Maybe I should change my vote, lol! It's a lot more fun to pick favorites from this album than, say, Raised on Rock.

I voted for Love Song of The Year.

My favourite track from this original Promised Land album.

How strange that none of the last three tracks got a single vote!
Apart from "Promised Land" they are the best songs on the album IMO!

I don't always vote for the singles tracks.
I vote for the track I like on the album.
If we all picked the same track there would be no point in having a poll.
You should leave the singles tracks out when it comes to voting.

To me Love Song of The Year is a track I like playing more than the rest on this album.

Neither do I!
On this album though, the single "Promised land" is IMO the superior track.
The other single "If you talk in your sleep" is another strong track and so is
"Thinking about you" and You asked me to"
"Love song of the year" and in particular "Mr Songman" are very weak songs, all my opinion of course and I find very hard to understand why RCA chose "Mr Songman" as the flip side of the great rocker "T.R.O.U.B.L.E".

Well, I had my little theory about that a few weeks ago:

"Why Mr. Songman was B-side? Perhaps Elvis wanted to do Donnie Sumner a little favour??? Only a guess."

Some of the 70's albums did have 2 or 3 singles.
Some singles were released after Elvis died.

My favorite, too. I've sung every song on it.
