I don't recall any effort by management to sell soundboard tapes back then. IIRC, the first one to pop out officially was the December 1975 recording of ""America the Beautiful," used as the B-side of "My Way" in October 1977. Although that may have been a board mix that went onto a reel-to-reel.

Although I'd agree one would have to be a *very* "far-seeing eye" to predict the rekindled interest in Elvis' recordings since the mid-to-late 80s and ongoing, and certainly not substandard sounding soundbooths or even soundboards (compared to multitracks). But think of it this way: if one (his employees, not management) had a limited job to do during casino engagements, the cheap equipment and the chance to record Elvis Presley through these simple means, why not do it and reason about it later ? It's only the cost of a tape, or not even that if one choses to then tape over it when changing one's mind. I don't think this kind of soundbooth recording would have been allowed if official recordings had been scheduled in any way during these '73-'74-'75 engagements. They could not have been commissioned by RCA or the Colonel because of the substandard sound quality so that leaves Elvis himselvis, or his large entourage, probably the latter.

We really should get Inspector Clouseau on this, he would straighten this whole mess out.

Lieber Ciscoking...ich bin ein FTD Fan und bei den VÖs die du mit Ernst J. kreiert hast, yes, die sind mehr als gelungen (mein Favorit ist die Shreveport 1975..genial)...und ich freu mich auf ATLANTA, Ga. Meine persönliche Frage...hat Ernst etwas vom August 1975? Ich habe natürlich diese Handvoll Shows auf AR CD/LP...aber ein Soundboard vom Opening oder der letzten Show waere eine sehr feine und wichtige VOe. Wie siehst du das...? Für mich sind diese Shows absolut hoehrneswert auf dem FTD Label...yes buddy, ich mag ELVIS 1975 sehr!!! Matt

No, we don't know. But since more than half that tour has seen in-line tapes surfacing, it sure seems possible. If so, it's likely that the first two numbers were not recorded.

Actually, we do know the Hollywood show was put on board tape. As the late Claude Baker wrote in his Canuck on Tour post about witnessing soundboard recordings:

On February 13th, 1977 in West Palm Beach, Fla. we went around the pool to relax and benefit from the Sunshine State weather, however while talking about different things with my friend ,Ronnie Tutt and Jerry Scheff who were right beside us began to play an audio-tape, and surprise surprise we were hearing the February 12th, 1977 Hollywood show my friends and I attended the night before with perfect sound quality, although after the beginning of " I Got A Woman " Ronnie stopped playing it as many fans started to gather around them.
