An offline recording done by the sound engineer or a member of the band with 2 mikes from somewhere on the sound stage or by a member of the audience from a good place near the stage. It creates a good artificial stereo effect and catches all the atmosphere of a live concert.

Why would a sound engineer do this?

I would think the Straight Arrow release "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" from 8/30/73 DS is a booth tape also Cisco.

Edit: I Would add Las Vegas Voice Volume 2 also.

Interesting! I have of course heard these before, and other booth recordings, but now there are so many that makes me wonder.

Docu purposes?
Well, why? Soundboards are for this purpose? Why go through the trouble of making these kind of recordings? Can you confirm that this was done by a sound engineer?

There is paperwork that indicates it was done professionally....either by the sound engineer or by someone in charge. A sample from Keiths site..

Cant tell you...probably out of the same reason why SBs were done. Testing and docu purposes.

It would be easier just to do a soundboard recording wouldn't it?

Interesting! Could you ask Ernst why these where done?

Thanks!!

Cheaper and easier are probably two reasons.

How do you figure that? Wouldn't it be both cheaper and easier just to plug a recorder into the soundboard? Especially as this was done many times before the sound booth recordings?

The person just sets up two mics, has someone press the record button, and whatever gets captured is the result. The sound man can concentrate on the musicians on stage, and the star's needs, without being bothered.

It all sounds like something management had done in order to have evidence of what Elvis was up to on stage. The reasons could be legal, or aesthetic.
