Elton John Appreciation Topic
Binaural Elton !
This is Tiny Dancer quad mix and mono mix is from a CD released in 1999 by Midnight Beat called The Alternate Madman Across The Water.
Disc One has the "Quad" remixes but are actually just a strange stereo mix with the vocals in the right channel, the piano in the left and the other instruments spread across the mix, the mono mixes are the "quad's" mixed down to create the mono mixes. It's an interesting mix but is not "Quad." Track 10 on Disc One list Tiny Dancer as a demo, it's actually the live version from The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Lady Samantha 1969 mono mix.
The original - Elton's first ever 45rpm as a solo act, was waxed in 1968, however.
Hope to find and add it to the thread.

Elton John Crocodile Rock and Elderberry Wine were released as a single in Canada on the UNI label in 1972. Compared to the MCA release, the UNI single has a slightly different mix on both songs.
0:00 Crocodile Rock ( channels switched, handclaps more distinct)
3:52 Elderberry Wine (guitars in right and left channel louder in the mix)

Re: Elton John Appreciation Topic
From Elton John's 1973 album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
This song was first recorded in 1970, at the time of the "Elton John" album, but not included on the album. It appeared as the B-side to the "Rock and Roll Madonna" single. The song was then recorded again in France with a totally new arrangement and sound as part of the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album in 1973.
Original single/45 and released as the B-side to "Rock & Roll Madonna" in 1970.

Re: Elton John Appreciation Topic
The following segment is from australian show "This Day Tonight" shown in 1974.
I suspect the images of Marilyn included in the video has been added on after the fact. The outtakes would not have surfaced in 1974. Whatever, you be the judge.

Re: Elton John Appreciation Topic
From the iconic AU music/social program "GTK (Getting to Know)" that was aired on Thursday , March 18 1971 exactly 50 years ago today (going on Oz time), here's Elton where he talks about getting his start in his career, songwriting partner and how they go about writing songs. This then segues to an adapted clip on 'Take me to the Pilot'.
John's long time songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin is interviewed by ex-LRB/Axiom/Twilights singer Glenn Shorrock on an episode of the AU ABC-TV music series 'Rock Arena'.

Happy Birthday Sir Elton !
He turns 74 on 25 March.
Now 37 years ago, on this same day, Elton and his band gave a nationally-televised sydney concert , he was half his age then. These are some of the songs they played.

Re: Elton John Appreciation Topic
"Shine on Through" another from The Thom Bell Sessions, recorded in Philadelphia and Seattle in 1977.
Elton wrote the music of this song first, during the "Blue Moves" sessions. Bernie Taupin was unable to write a lyric, and so the song waited until Gary Osborne was able to complete it. It was then recorded for the Thom Bell Sessions in 1977, but this recording was not released until 1989 on "The Complete Thom Bell Sessions," remixed by Elton and Clive Franks.
The song actually first saw the light of day at a performance at Wembley Stadium in 1977.
The song was re-recorded and then released on "A Single Man," released in 1978, long before this earlier recording was released.
Next will be "A Single Man" album only version, this is shorter and superior arrangement.

Elton John Celebrates 74th Birthday With Six Vintage Songs
Songs include 1967’s “Scarecrow,” which is the first song he wrote with lyricist Bernie Taupin
Elton John turns 74 Thursday, March 25th, and he’s marking the occasion by sharing six rare songs from his 2020 box set Elton: Jewel Box on streaming services for the first time. One of them is 1967’s “Scarecrow,” the first song he wrote with Bernie Taupin.
“Scarecrow’ will always have a very special place in my heart, and I know that Bernie feels the same way too,” John said in a statement. “It’s the song that started it all. This last year in lockdown has given us all time to look back and reflect — finding this song again when I put together the Jewel Box and thinking of everything that has happened in our careers and friendships that has sprouted from this one point is just remarkable.”
“Jewel Box contains the embryos of something special, and ‘Scarecrow’ goes right to the heart of that, naive compositions of a time and place that went on to become something very special indeed,” he continued. “What a wild ride it’s been so far, and how lucky we are to have found each other.”

now, check out this 5.1 remix :
and this one :
Mono mix of just the bass, drums and vocals. Dee Murray's bass is too awesome to be obscured in these songs. It can be heard in all its greatness in this mix.
