It's definitely not Dottie Harmony. It is unclear if they'd even seen each other much after the beginning of the new year, 1957

As is pretty clear by Cliff Gleaves' report in that 1958 movie magazine posted by The fool, and the photo of Sandy Preston found there, it is indeed Sandy.

I believe the 1958 movie magazine article to be true but the woman pictured just doesn't match the woman in the picture that Elvis is sitting with especially the hairstyle , it is very rare for a woman who has became known for her looks to do a 360 on her hairstyle in those days and with a simple zoom in the noses are quite different . I would say that atleast another photo of Sandy Preston should be required to close the case because the woman that Elvis is with just don't add up to what the facts is with the article .
It's just very strange that most everyone who sees the woman with Elvis in the picture who is familiar with Dottie Harmony, Even with Elvis cropped out reconizes her as Dottie Harmony outside of FECC .
..at least that part is still a mystery!
This is a great topic Doc and is what makes this forum special!

The Sahara photograph is from Oct 1957, the Sep 1958 magazine shot is presumably from the following summer, a good eight months later. As Sandy Preston was a model, it is no surprise her hairstyle is different.

All indications are that the mystery woman is Sandy Preston, but thank your mom for her kind input.

It's difficult to say for sure if the girl was really Sandy Preston, but it's true that her smile looks similar to the girl at the Sahara (her picture below is from the Brooklyn Eagle newspaper, 1952).
Also, according to Historic Films (http://www.historicfilms.com/search/?searchType=all&q=sandy+preston#p1), it seems like Sandy was one of "The coming attractions girl" on the Steve Allen Show in 1957. The clips are not available to watch online, but if anyone here can find a way to watch them or has those TV shows, this "mistery" would probably be put to rest.

It's not at all difficult to use the visual and written evidence on this topic to conclude that the beautiful Sandy Preston was Elvis' date in the Sahara photo on page 1. And it remains gratifying to know my hunch was absolutely correct.

Aunt Delta does make a nice discovery that Preston was a regular in 1957 on the Steve Allen Show, as the "Coming Attractions" girl. This may well be where Elvis first spotted her. If anyone has access to the Allen broadcasts listed in that archive link, it would be fun to see and hear her (January 20, 27 and April 14, 1957 shows).

Below are the details to these programs, identified, sorted and corrected by me:

Great work, Doc! Does anybody know if she's still alive? If yes, where is she now? Maybe somebody could contact and ask her?
Sorry, just a few thoughts spinning 'round in my head.

You were right, The Fool. The mistery date was indeed Sandy Preston.

I already confirmed The fool's observation as correct, but thank you for finding more photos of the gorgeous Sandy Preston.

It would be really cool to locate a better quality copy of the Sahara photo.

EDIT: better quality found and uploaded. Thanks, davide!

Well, not everyone was so sure that it was really her, so I thought these two last pictures would be conclusive for them.
You're are welcome about photos. Hopefully someone will share more of his spicy vintage magazines in the future :smt002

I wish I could read that true story about the island of lonesome women. Must be a fascinating piece of research.

davide, thank you! I will update my posts with the far superior image of Elvis and Sandy.

It's so obvious she is not Dottie, yet the shot is grouped in with the others.

As far as the Harmony shots, va-va-voom!!!

Nice screen grabs. You can see friends George Klein and Arthur Hooten at the table with Elvis. It would make sense they hit Vegas as a "boy's club," on the hunt for girls.

If only we had some more photos of the night.
You also can spot Lamar Fike sitting at the table and Tom Diskin standing with Elvis.

Nice topic and great research btw!

Thanks.

One thing I've learned is to follow your intuition. Poor Sandy Preston will seemingly forever be mistaken as "Dottie Harmony" -- except by the sharp-eyed members of FECC!

With all due respect for the extensive research on the topic, if this was a multiple choice topic, I would vote for "none of the above."

The fresh and lovely young lady next to Elvis in the photo doesn't strike me as a Las Vegas showgirl. In a public place in Vegas, this could have been any fan.
