Well, that is quite a nice and tidy (and fairly accurate) summation of the Presley career to date by Martha Lopert. A careful look at her piece indicates she lifts quite a few quotes from the nationally-syndicated series of articles on Elvis that appeared in 1956, written by the New York Daily Mirror's Sidney Fields:

New York Daily Mirror, September, 1956
http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=99227#p1617650

One suspects that perhaps the rest of her piece uses similar techniques to complete the story. Since I cannot find anything on Lopert, I wonder if the name is actually a pseudonym.

My favorite part is when Lopert makes note of Elvis singing with the Jordanaires at Paramount, between takes on "King Creole." They offer up acapella performances of "I'll Take You Home, Kathleen," "Danny Boy" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds."

"Fooling around for free," said Elvis. Oh, to have a recording of it!

Thanks, as always, The fool.

Also forgot to note the article includes a delightful photo of Elvis with actress Carolyn Jones, presumably from March 1958.
