Is this really an alternate?
Yes, superb quality, but not an unreleased alternate picture from that session.
It's one that is known for decades.

It's not crazy to ask such a price - I'd say very clever.
What's crazy is to pay that price - I'd say very dumb.

Thanks as always, ed40. Your posts are such a treat, every time.
My feeling on this eBay item is that it's a rip-off.
It's not the "original" photo seen in the newspaper, although it appears to be a print from the original negative. One person is missing.
The article and photo with everyone in the shot ran the day after the jam session.
And the Dec 4th shot later appeared in the first issue of "16 Magazine."

And there in print, just a day later, is the famous phrase "MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET."
Thanks to JamesVRoy for the original newspaper scan.

And there is only one photo up for auction.
What would REALLY be worth something? Prints of all the photos taken that day, from the original negatives.
Below is everything on the page.
I like that the backside has George Pierce's name on it, he took all the professional photos that afternoon.
And it also shows an editor detailing how to remove any trace of Presley gal pal Marilyn Evans, namely "completely silhouette girl's figure as shown here . . ."
