Sheila Ryan book
Does anyone know anything about the book she is supposed to be writing. Also, I read somewhere that there might be movie made from the book.
For some reason, I dread it.

Is James and her still married? If so he don't seem like the type to allow his wife to wax poetic about her former lover. So I would be very afraid.

"His second marriage with Sheila Ryan (1976) was short lived, and they divorced the next year."

So I was off by about thirty years?
Thanks Brad!
I guess she can wax poetic all she wants without the fear of Santino coming down on her.

Sheila Ryan is cool.
She dated EP when she was a young woman during an interesting period in Elvis' life. Who are we to judge her?
She has a real story, other than many people who barely knew the king at all!
Don't blame her for telling some remarkable stories..
If you're not interested, just skip her interviews, books or whatever she comes up with.
Remember a few months with Elvis, must have been way more interesting than us folks experience everyday at our daily jobs.
Speaking of Sheila, thanks for post topics like this:
Now I can't get that bloody tattoo out of my mind!

Re: Sheila Ryan book
No, don't dread it. On second thought, there probably will be awful parts (and the ending will be tragic, of course; how could it not be? Elvis died). I'll bet she goes into the drugs and how they made him seem erratic. But I think it's supposed to be a love story. She evidently has very fond memories of him.e76 wrote:Does anyone know anything about the book she is supposed to be writing. Also, I read somewhere that there might be movie made from the book.

It's been a long time, two or three years, since a mutual acquaintance mentioned that Sheila was feeling very nostalgic about her romance with Elvis and was planning to write a book. Her main point was that she didn't believe at the time that Elvis was serious when he told her how much he cared for her. She felt he was just feeding her a line and that she was just another in a string of women. Only later did she realize that he was telling the truth.
Whether what she writes will be 100% the truth or not, there isn't any question that Elvis was deeply hurt when Sheila broke up with him. It's why he was so ticked off at Kathy Westmoreland when she wouldn't stay with him and comfort him in his loss (because she was with Ed Enoch instead), and that started the whole insults-from-the-stage thing. I doubt she was ever his fiancee' though. He was known to say, "I wonder what it would be like to be married to you" once or twice, but who knows.
We'll just have to wait and see. I won't buy it unless it gets good reviews.

Well, Ed and Kathy were dating at the time, so it was understandable that Kathy was going to stay with Ed.Kelvin wrote:It's why he was so ticked off at Kathy Westmoreland when she wouldn't stay with him and comfort him in his loss (because she was with Ed Enoch instead), and that started the whole insults-from-the-stage thing.
First time i have ever heard this..........sly old Ed!
Later on that day (or night; their days and nights were turned around) she ran into him in the casino and he said, "Well if you're not going to stay with me I'm going to make sure I get a good night's sleep," and swallowed some pills. She believes the next concert was the first time she remembers him slurring words. (Though you know these memories can be tricky, and I wouldn't be surprised if he slurred words before that).
But it's why Elvis said from the stage, "She takes affection from the whole damn band."
The follow-up to that is that after some of the Sweets and Kathy walked off stage, Kathy quit for a day, I think, and then agreed to come back. In the hotel she passed Elvis coming down the hall with a date. Elvis got rid of the date and summoned Kathy to his room.
She says he was sitting there with a gun in one hand, and a boxed watch in the other. He asked her which she would prefer. Her heart racing, she tried to be nonchalant as she said, "I'll take the watch, of course."
That was his way of apologizing to her. But yeah, imagine what an insult that she preferred to be with one of his backup singers rather than him.

Well, I've read that Sheila said that when someone says that Elvis was a sex-symbol she thinks to herself: "Are we thinking about the same man? This does not seen a very good comment about Elvis unless she were trying to say: "Well, Elvis wasn't a sex-symbol to me because I saw him as a human being and not a myth".
