Not only the original had over 400 pages more than this reissue, but the book measured 12x12 inches, while this one appears to be 8x8 inches.

There has to be a ton of photos and information missing.

Good Lord, it was that long ago? Now I feel old...

Actually, I am ecstatic that this set is being re-released. I had just become an Elvis fan right after the original release and even if I had been able to shell out that much money then (what was it, like $300), I probably wouldn't have made the purchase anyway because I knew that there were limited copies and this was for sure what fans of the past 20, 30, 40 and 50 years had been waiting for.

For a brand new, young fan like me to have snatched one of those copies that could have gone to a much more devoted fan at the time would just seem wrong to me.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that this will be on my doorstep the day of release!

This is a nice release and I will likely purchase it. I really don't understand all the excitement though. It is a release that many already have and many more have at least heard it. I think many of us were expecting or hoping for "something" from Sony/RCA that would not be just a reissue since it is the 40th anniversary which is now only 2 months away. Since it is a significant year and apparently Sony/RCA will not release anything "new" probably signals the end of an era.
When you think about it what else could they have? Many have been talking about EOT but that is probably just a dream. With that said all is good because we have far more than we ever thought possible or even can listen/watch. So the year of the 40th anniversary that we have looked forward to in hopes of a great year of releases has been disappointing and has become really the end of a great ride.

I will buy this release too - I hope Sony have made a deal with Jack White in order to get permission to use the new transfer of "My Happiness", which was done by Alan Stoker a few years ago.

I hope so, too. But they probably would have mentioned that in the product description. So unfortunately, it's not likely.

It was half that: £90 from Elvis Shop London.

Many art or architecture books are much more expensive and probably took much less time and effort to compile. It was actually a relative bargain at the time. A slimmer FTD book with or without 1CD has been £60 for some time now :)

you got only a couple months notice on this release for the end of July...with this being the 40th anniversary year...anything can happen for release during the 4th quarter...for that matter most major releases are now coming during that time leading up the the Christmas holidays...ya gotta get this idea out of your head that everything must drop on August 16...well it`s a Wednesday so I can guarantee you nothing is dropping on that day from Sony  or from anyone else for that matter!!

The excitement on my part is that finally every Elvis fan or music lover will be able to get it as as a mainstream release which means cheap moneywise! 8).

I was one of who always stated this should have been released for the general public but I expected to be released before this year. As this is going to be released on the 40th Anniversary, I now think we won´t have Elvis On Tour Special release this year as they don´t probably want to overshadow this great SUN package..... Bye for now :smt006.

Yippee! I posted the above on an FECC poll almost five year ago. Was beginning to think it would never happen.

Best news since "Platinum", 10 years ago.
Except it's not a Legacy Edition. All titles in that series are based on original albums (or, in the case of Jeff Buckley's Live a Sin-e, an EP). Boy from Tupelo is not based on an original album. It is therefore released by the Legacy imprint, but is not a Legacy Edition.

I´ve said it before, and I´ll say it again...It´s a shame they let it out of print in the first place.

No one ever "let it out of print."

The 2012 FTD book project (with bonus audio) was never intended to be more than one print run, and it was presented that way. Financially, it would have been impossible to keep such a massive work in print.

Maybe, but it appears that it was never quite as exclusive as we were originally led to believe. Get ready for more replies making excessive use of quotation marks.

I don't see it on Amazon US...has it ever been listed there?

Never having had a chance to pick up the original ABFT at a reasonable price, I'm really excited about this release. If it comes out at a price similar to Prince From Another Planet and Elvis At Stax, I'll place an order for it as soon as a release date is set!
