Oprah at Graceland - "Secret Room"

#305866

Post by elvisjock »

I feel that I've now hit bottom, as I take time out of my day to promote the Oprah show.

That being said, on Tuesday Oprah travels to Graceland, where she hangs with Lisa and Michael Lockwood.

According to Oprah's website (on my God, I can't believe I went to Oprah's website) the program will reveal, "somewhere on the grounds of Graceland, a secret room that no Elvis fan has everseen before.

Tivo time!

Yeah, I think she's getting Graceland mixed up with that house in Amityville.

It's probably gonna be where Priscilla keeps her supply of botox.

It's not like Capone's vault is it? Seriously, maybe they'll show EP's bedroom.

I believe I know of the room to which she refers but it's not true that it has not been seen before as it appeared on a short video about Graceland.

This would be the "bunker room" the purpose built storm proof, tornado proof, flood proof and earthquake proof as well as some other "proofs" I've missed out. This is where the room is temperature controlled to help keep in good condition many rare and valuable documents including title deeds, original photos / negatives, CBS tapes, the autopsy report etc etc.

The room is mostly underground with a small access area above ground. I'm not sure where it is on the grounds. I looked via google earth and I'm still not 100% sure but it seems to be in the far right hand corner of the ground base upon coming into graceland through the gates.

Having rambled about all that it might not be the room in question. Unless they are going up into the loft / attic area, but I'm sure I've seen Priscilla intro a programme from there.

It's a secret room, not a secret warehouse.

OK, so if the secret room is in the mansion..which one is it?
Haven't wee seen everything on floor one?
I know the laundry room was cracked open the last time I was there and there were boxes in it, when I pushed it open alittle more, the guide on the VIP tour said "storage.." and shut the door.
I'm not sure which room was once Minnie Mae's apartment?? Is that the annex/new display room behind the kitchen??

A preview on Oprah's site reveals that the "secret room" is an archives area in one of the outbuildings behind Graceland.

I hope this saved a few people from the pain of having to watch Oprah.

I guess it's the laundry room along with the personnel's toilet.

Then it's not true that no Elvis fan has seen this. Most of us have.

I guess Oprah is a little hard up and couldn't afford decent reseachers.

I didn't see the preview myself (although I did catch a few minutes of yesterday's kick-ass show in which Lisa Masterson was assisting women suffering from menstruation problems), but my wife indicated to me that they were at/near the stables portion of the grounds.

I find the plans of G'land fascinating to look at, I tend to end up staring at them for longer than is healthy.

To think that Elvis laid dying directly above where your are when you walk into the house seems odd as many don't think that way in 3D in their mind when reading of the account.

And EPE are probably counting on that. Or not.

I was surprised that so much of the archive artifacts are maintained on the grounds. I know there's a warehouse offsite, and I assumed everything was stored there. Perhaps larger items (furniture, instruments, costumes) are in the warehouse.

I'm not convinced that the storage room is an underground bunker. If there was such a building at Graceland, especially if it existed when Elvis lived there, don't you think we would have heard about it or read about it?

I enjoyed seeing the Mansion briefly come alive as Lisa and her guests were served a southern supper in the dining room. For that evening, it was more house than museum.

I will now return to my Oprah-free existence.

Too bad she didn't inherit any of her father's humility or grace.

Will someone tell that lug to take off that hat--especially a stupid looking hat like that--while sitting at the table!

It is as it has been shown before a few years ago on TV. The above ground bit is relatively small from memory as that's just like a stair access point.
It was never there when Elvis was alive and was built in more recent times and most of us have heard about it.

I liked the cans on top of the cupboard unit. considering what EPE have said they own footage wise there seems to be quite a bit there and it is not 8mm.
