No albums yet tonight, but a trip to the opera. English Touring Opera are currently on tour with La Boheme and Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel. I went with the latter. It's an utterly bizarre tale of love, invasion, and a psychic cockerel, which was very entertaining, even though I confess I didn't find the music particularly memorable. Sadly it was very poorly attended, although La Boheme is sold out. That, I'm afraid, does sum up the mentality these days of people knowing what they like and not taking any risks at trying other things out - but perhaps an opera where a king is pecked to death by a psychic cockerel is just a little too left field!

This popped through the door today. Didn't really know what to expect - Norwegian operas are not exactly performed or recorded a great deal! But this disc of overtures has turned out to be a real joy. Very attractive music indeed.
