A World Of Our Own 🤷🏻‍♂️

#1989666

Post by LSP-4445 »

When I heard on a 24-7 Elvis radio station today a «new» song came up…..or at least it felt like it :D
At first I didnt recognize the track but only when the title lyrics was sung I could place the
song and to what soundtrack.
The reason is that I almost never listen to Elvis soundtracks from the 60s and IHATWF is one I dont remember the last time I gave a spin……..could be in the 90s or as a kid in the 80s.(blue hawaii and Gi Blues has been played though)
Hearing A World Of Our Own today was actually nice experience and im thinking of hearing the whole soundtrack this weekend :)
Will be nice to hear «unknown» or forgotten songs for a change :smt001

It's a pleasant performance and possibly my second favorite to "They Remind Me Too Much of You" from the World's Fair soundtrack

Despite its shortcomings (the, well, short running time, iffy sound and quality of the material) I enjoy a lot of this soundtrack. Elvis was in such good voice.

I think the most impressive thing about A World of Our Own is Elvis's singing, which is quite wonderful here, as it typically was in the early-sixties, regardless of the material. Pleasant is a good description of this song, but it's also rather slight and seems influenced to some degree by Don Robertson.

Elvis recorded better songs of a similar type, but those lilting phrases in his singing are genuinely captivating here in any regard. And some of that buoyancy is present in the scene from It Happend at the World's Fair where this song features. It's directed in workmanlike fashion by Norman Taurog, but there's a sparkle to Elvis's performance that is quite charming to watch.

Elvis “copied” exactly the demo version (arrangement-lyrics) which lasted 2:11.

Perhaps useful in a complete recording sessions release:

It’s known from the 10 songs used in the movie are 9 two sided MGM demo acetates circulating

Happy ending (Wayne-Weisman) - demo by P J Proby
According to an interview with Ben Weisman this song was a “last minute” addition.

For whatever: It was always Elvis' singing that made all those songs listenable! He could sing the phonebook and make it listenable! :smt020

I can’t think of another song where he sounds as happy as he does on this song. In perhaps the best voice ever, 1962, he elevates all of the soundtrack to a level much higher than it deserves. The one liner, I Apologize, tantalizes.

A very pretty song on a fairly dismal, short (perhaps that's good) soundtrack album. I do like it, Relax, They Remind Me Too Much of You (probably the best -- but the lyrics make no sense relative to the short 'relationship' he's had with Diane in the film to that point) and I'm Falling In Love Tonight. One Broken Heart For Sale was probably the song to lift as a single, but it's not very good material.

I know all of Elvis' material really well (even the Sun material), so I would never experience what LSP-4445 experienced.

Watching the film clip, Joan is such a beauty and still with us! She seems so 'sophisticated' and perhaps the most adult woman Elvis was ever cast against (Hope Lange, aside).

Played the full IHATWF soundtrack yesterday….all 21 minutes….and it was ok,many songs here that I had completely forgotten.
That said im not tempted to play it again anytime soon as the only positive thing I can say is that Elvis is in a very good voice.
Obviously as this is the early 60`s.

Elvis in the summer of 1962. Not a good LP.

A favorite of mine.

I have always liked the song. Perhaps the only time that a leading lady is seen smoking while Elvis is embracing her.

Elvis's voice is great here, especially when he sing the line "Knowing You Mine for Ever". His voice without effort ranged from low notes to high notes, musically.
