I guess it's another incarnation of the old fairytale. Poor Elvis was locked in Hollywood against his will. Poor Elvis had to fight against his manager, the network and everyone else. Poor Elvis was successful and saved his career, which would have been killed off by a Xmas show. That's what we almost always get to hear and that's what the fans want to see. I'm not too postitive about this Netflix thing.
And why is this a fairytale, exaggerations aside?

Hopefully Netflix will advertise so the general people will know about it.

Looks promising…..right?

Wow, they are really milking it aren’t they?

Priscilla’s face looks like it’s gonna fall off.

It does look good though.

Despite almost falling off? That's a win for Ms. Beaulieu.
LOL 😆 I actually meant the program.

"another incarnation of the old fairytale"

This reads like someone who has decided to ignore every credible thing ever written about the life and career of Elvis Presley.

You can pass on the joy which this 2024 special will bring viewers old and new alike.

I won't.

That we are getting mainstrean Elvis content can not be more welcomed.

I wish they get younger and more diverse talent to participate though.

Perhaps not too many younger and diverse artists are familiar with the music Elvis made on June 27th 1968, and where he cultivated those hard-edged r&b and rock 'n' roll numbers. So their comments and observations might be relegated to how he looked, what he wore and those rough-and-ready vocals he delivered.

Maybe, but would it be so bad if all they spoke of was his looks and sound? Because that is what is timeless. He did look and sound spectaculour enough to appeal to young audiences of today in the special. In addition to the existing people who are more knowledgible, this would add, not detract.

I am not saying take anyone just because they are young/ diverse: but we have people like Miley Cyrus, Harry Styles, Eddie Murphy, just top of mind, who have often spoken of his influence and their fandom.

If Baz luhrmann has a hand in the Netflix special like he did with Reinventing Elvis, we're in for a treat, but it's going to be hard to improve on Reinventing Elvis.

I'm looking forward to it 😊

I was actually sorry to see Baz in the trailer, but I'll watch it anyway. I thought his Elvis movie sucked and I struggled to get thru his fantasy ego trip. I dont like his other movies either. I will watch this because of the subject matter and people like Darlene Love whom I adore as a person(yes I know her) and performer.

None of those names would add anything special, and Eddie Murphy is 63 years old.

If you're going to have talking heads in a serious documentary, the contributions should be substantive.

Harry Styles is one of the biggest stars of recent times. He has acknowledged Elvis' musical influence on him. He is also a gender bending fashionista- a line is often drawn from Elvis' androgyny to him. His inclusion definitely resonates with younger audience and in a meaningful way.

Yes, agree that none of these people can speak as authoritatively as Springsteen or Darlene or even Luhrmann. But they represent the more diverse and timeless appreciation for Elvis. That can not be bad. In fact it might differentiate this documentary from the recent Reinventing Elvis.

I am grateful for what we are getting though.

Really don’t see how or why anyone would complain about a new Elvis project. I’m just thankful people are still making the effort.

I'm not aware of Harry Styles speaking about music from a historical perspective. What I do know is he became popular about a decade ago as a member of a U.K. boy band called One Direction, a unit formed from a TV competition.

When he went solo, his pop music did well on the charts and otherwise, especially overseas, but none of it reached me. It appears a move to filmmaking may be taking priority these days, as his last hit was a couple of years ago. Maybe his presence would add something to this upcoming Presley documentary, maybe not. But would his fanbase follow?

If I remember correctly Harry Styles was one of five doing the rounds to play Elvis in the Baz film. Glad to see Austin was chosen.
