I have grown to like this song just as much other favorites of mine. Its a beautiful song and Elvis delivers it very well in my opinion.
And yet it stayed on the shelf for 22 years. Do you ever wonder why?
Probably because it was never meant to be released in the first place. Beyond The Reef also sat on the shelf for many years. For a song that I consider good, I am surprised by that.
Oftentimes things never meant to be released are designated as such by the artist and/or producer, for obvious reasons.
It is a shame that "It's Diff'rent Now" and "Good, Bad But Beautiful" were the best Clive Westlake delivered to Elvis in 1973.
. Dr. John Carpenter, M.D. Stop, look and listen, baby <<--->> that's my philosophy!
I'm indiff'rent to it. It's rather weak and certainly unfinished which is why it sat so long on the shelf. But fans, me, being desperate for anything knew, were happy to have it. Now the lyrics for GOOD, BAD BUT BEAUTIFUL look like a very bad movie song.
Vegas stalwart Shirley Bassey made it the title track to an LP she released 49 years ago (!) this month. The music really seals the deal.
Good, Bad But Beautiful
I've seen a man help a friend when he's down
And put him back on his feet
I've seen a man kick a man when he's down
In a lonely street
But I've seen the face of a child
When he's lying sound asleep in bed
And I've seen the sun go down when the world is red
I've seen good, and I've seen bad
But I've seen beautiful
I've seen right and I've seen wrong
But I've seen love
Life is good and life is bad, but very beautiful
And if you live it right
You'll fill your world with love
I've seen a boy take the hand of a girl
And lead her to his heart
I've seen a man break the heart of a girl
And leave her sad
But I've seen the love in the eyes of a man beside me
Yes, and I've seen the world the way that makes me glad
I've seen good, and I've seen bad
But I've seen beautiful
I've seen right and I've seen wrong
But I've seen love
Life is good and life is bad, but very beautiful
And if you live it right
You'll fill your world with love
I've seen good, and I've seen bad
But I've seen beautiful
I've seen right and I've seen wrong
But I've seen love
Life is good and life is bad, but very beautiful
And if you live it right
You'll fill your world with love
Just imagine Elvis digging into this one.

Does that mean songs like that should never be released (or) the fans should never have that opportunity to decide for themselves how they feel about the songs ?. Elvis has been gone for many years and I welcome the opportunity to hear music never heard before. If a whole album of unreleased songs were discovered, I would think that any fan would want to hear them and make up their own minds on the songs. I would imagine that it's Different Now was unreleased because it was an unfinished song. I don't really get into those discussions that much because I really don't care why its been in the vaults for many years, I am just glad that it did see the light of day because I am one fan that enjoys hearing the song.

No, and no.

No, and no.
my first thought after this answer:
Do you think other entertainers should also keep their views to themselves?
I am actually glad the song was released because in the song Elvis shows brief moments like in 'Sweet Angeline' that are nice + a sadness and lethargy in his voice which fits the song, although it's obviously sounding just like an Album filler track.

what a lousy song. As Marty once said the material after 1969 was mostly sh*t with a good song every now & then. Such was the 70's. As for covers there were great artists he could have covered, Carole King, Elton, Lennon, James Taylor, Van Morrison, The Band, etc but just never bothered
Yes listening to the song versions I reluctantly agree that both It's Different now and Good, Bad but Beautiful are nothing more than 'album filler' class. Same as 'woman without Love' is from the 1975 Album "Today"
