For some reasons, i think that the Sun recordings should not be altered: they sound incredibly well as they are. But i wouldn't mind using that new technology on the sit-down shows from 1968 or on the 1961 hawaiian concert.
Yes but if they go ahead with such a thing, the originals will still be left intact and if you already own those originals via a plethora of releases, they are not suddenly going to disappear from your collection.

Surely, it then becomes choices made by fans and other people - if you and others think the results are great, sound incredible and of interest, then buy and if you don’t, and you are happy with the originals that you already own, then save your money and don’t buy. It’s that simple.

We're not talking about altering the original recordings. We're discussing producing a new stereo matrix. The originals will remain intact, as they always have been and available on a dozen releases, which many of you already have.
People think that producing new stereo masters will erase the mono originals.
But I think this new technology could also be used on some soundboards, which have good sound quality. Some concerts from 1974 or 1975 could be transformed into stereo with excellent results.

Once again, this really is dependant on production costs. FTD soundboard releases have dropped off quite a bit in recent years mainly because many fans have got fed up with listening to shows that offer very little difference to others, save for a handfulof different songs for a new tour which simply get replicated across various shows on various releases , and with Elvis' delivery of the shows basically running on autopilot does not help.

Adding even more expensive production costs into the cost mix will require bigger sales if Sony want to maintain a decent profit margn, which is unlikely to happen unless they move into a bigger mainstream market and there is no real evidence that the bigger joe public market is interested in buying into shows which look very similar to mainstream releases that are already available. For the casusal fan and those of a lesser nature, owning Madison Square Gardens, Aloha and Recorded in Memphis albums is all they need. And if you need evidence to back that up, just look at the dismal sales of the recent Elvis On Tour boxset which did not make either the UK or US Album charts despite the set offering professionally recored unreleased shows.

Good point, but not sure if the box set was the way to go with the EOT?? Anyway, with that said wonder if we will see something else from Sony (Ernst) related to the EOT / TTWII release from Baz / WB.

I'm sure there will be as a joint venture in cross marketing although what they could offer around any recordings unreleased remains to be seen. I see this venture as another 50th anniversary thing.

...yes so do I...reality is we may see a variety of things in 2025. I really can`t see SONY / EPE/ or anybody else for that matter passing that one by. Something I was thinking about over the weekend in relation to the Ernst box set THE 50`s MASTERS IN 1992 and that is the 35th Anniversary of that box set in 2027. What a way to end his long reign and retire with a complete AI box set of the 50`s with added bonuses, just seems to fit perfectly :D

Assume you mean 2027??. I realise that the 50th will be a pretty big event, but I think they ie Sony, and other parties, need to be careful that they do not oversaturate the market with too many releases in August, otherwise fans will get pushed into making choices and there are likely to be casualties on certain releases.

But the market is already saturated with Elvis releases, so maybe that's the reason for the low sales. In ten years the public has already had two releases of the Live on Stage in Memphis concert.
With the release of the Memphis Box, this should be the third release of the American recordings in 11 years.
This not only saturates the market, but confuses the consumer.
I think that since the 1990s the Elvis catalog has received more than 100 releases, I don't know how many box sets. That's a lot.

Reality check:

The cost of using Peter Jackson's proprietary AI technology on 140 tracks would NEVER be green-lit by SONY.

The company couldn't possibly turn a profit on such a release.

What is unfortunate is that we still don’t have a comprehensive set including all of Elvis’ original Mono singles available, which has been discussed here ad nauseam. I know it’ll never happen, (niche market), it’s still a great alternative.

People are seeming to wanna go back, nostigically, whether it’s vinyl/analog/Mono, etc etc. anyway.

Over on The Beatles pond, Apple are now giving us the new box set including the original Capital albums in Mono, regardless of the alternate unique mixes, fold downs and drenched reverb all intact.

yes 2027...and early August will be the big date as far as a major release, but I am not convinced that August is the only date, "other things" may appear long before and after.

Well, the set is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the group hitting America, turning the music world upside down and releasing 6 albums within that year. Dave Dexter at Capitol also increased high end and reduced low end frequencies on the tapes that George Martin sent over and those elements have been reversed whilst still retaining the reverb etc. Apple think there is a market amongst UK fans who never got hold of those original US albums, whilst some US collectors want nice new versions as an alternative to their worn out originals.
And each album comes with some fact sheets written by US writer, Bruce Spizer, who is recognised as the ultimate presenter of historical info surrounding The Beatles record releases and who has served as a consultant to EMI and Apple Records and produced in-depth books about each of their albums.

The set has received mixed reactions, especially as the 7 LP box version with the exclusive bonus LP "The Beatles Story" is a whopping $300 in the US but surprisingly a lot cheaper here in the UK. Fans will be able to buy them separately if they wish but not the bonus album.

The other thing that has caused frustration over this release is that fans were expecting the revamped Rubber Soul this year, which although created two years ago, is now expected next year for the 60th anniversary.

What "other options that can deliver the same result"?

Proprietary is mentioned with Peter Jackson's AI technology for a reason.

Technology is something that is constantly developing.
A few years ago there was only ChatgPT, today there are several other AI competitors. It's only a matter of time before another AI emerges that does the same job as Peter Jackson's AI. Surely the major studios are developing something along these lines.
