I remember somebody stating many months ago that a CD box set would still be released including a BluRay to the mainstream market even though FTD released the 8 inch package first...I wonder who that was?? Did some actually think we would get the 68 box (50th) and not a 73 box
You did, and it's an utterly cynical, underhand ploy from FTD to release the FTD set last year and then issue it on the main label with a blu ray so that people buy it AGAIN. It's horrible, disgusting, underhand tactics, exploiting the hardcore group of fans who are buying everything. Just as I said many months ago.
thanks for the acknowledgement...at the end of the day it`s a box of CD`s a BluRay and probably a book that you have a choice of buying or not?? That said I never get this angry even for matters that are much, much worse.
Then perhaps you should, rather than be perfectly content at your fellow fans being ripped off.

But hey, there might be something different here. Perhaps there's five minutes extra audio because they mastered it a different speed this time around just for the hell of it.

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

If the blu ray includes both shows and the aftershow session, isn't it reasonable to assume that there will be no significant upgrade, and they are only using the format so that they can fit all the content on to one disc?
The '68 Comeback Special release faced a similar issue. Regrettably, the Blu-rays released in 2018, which were supposed to be improved, fell short in comparison to the 2004 DVDs. The latter not only looked superior but also contained identical content.

Is it any wonder that FTD and Sony are frightened of giving out contact information. This is a blatant rip off for hard core collectors who want to buy every release to keep their collection up to date. And if this new release contains the rehearsal show remixed by MRS, then Ernst should be ashamed of himself for allowing the FTD version to come out as both shows must have been done at the same time with the rehearsal one being held back for the FTD release.
...well at least your not as mad as that other guy

Watch they'll do the same thing with the MSG show that all of you are raving about.

Glad I didn't buy Aloha, and I bet I'll be glad I didn't buy MSG either.

Oh, I didn't know that. I decided to purchase the '68 Comeback Special set back then primarily for the CDs. For the Aloha release, I'll only consider buying it if the Rehearsal Show is also remastered (which I believe will be the case). Similar to the previous set, I expect it to be reasonably priced considering the substantial amount of material included.

I'm not particularly upset that some of this is available on the FTD label. I understand that this new set is aimed at the casual and occasional fan who may only be interested in collecting the significant milestones of Elvis' career.

That is hardly the point who this new is aimed at. What about the fans who bought and paid good money for the FTD release just 15 months ago believing that the FTD set was likely to be the ultimate release. Those fans have effectively been duped - I mean I wonder how many would have bought that set had they known a better mainstream set would come out 18 months later.

I cannot believe that Sony had no idea about doing a 50th anniversary release over a year ago and even if the dumb morons at Sony did not work it out, Ernst should have been waving a big red flag about the importance of a 50th anniversary release on mainstream - which would have been for both Elvis collectors and the public, just like they did with On Tour.

If this release was a carbon copy of the FTD release, there would not be a problem, but it isn’t. They have added a Blu-Ray for the two shows and rehearsals as an enticement for collector fans to double dip. And the situation will be even more of a rip off if the rehearsal show contains a new mix done in the same way as the main show was for the FTD release.

We’ve already got the 40th anniversary 4 LP Aloha set Imagewith both shows and the rehearsals…let alone the FTD from last year and the quality going from something filmed on video to Blu-ray is nonexistent as we all know from the 68 Comeback 50th anniversary set.

So, no thanks.

The main show on LP thou was just a remaster of the original release.. the new mix by matt is better by a long shot and im sure thats the one being issued on this vinyl

So this is a physical product from RCA Legacy correct? Why does the original topic say coming to streaming services? Confusing.

No. There is NO excuse for releasing something again after a year with extra stuff so you buy it again. None. And, to my knowledge, this is the first time this has happened within that time frame.

You’ll have to refresh my memory then because whilst I know they have re-released things over the last 30 years in so called better sound or remixed sound or whatever fancy word you wish to give it, I cannot recall them doing such a thing before where there is such a short gap of 18 months between an FTD release and a mainstream release that appears to offer more value for money.

Yes I forgot - FTD put out a 5 CD set from On Tour early last year and then Sony decided to do a mainstream release early this year with an extra CD for a show that was missed and a Blu-Ray disc of the movie as an additional sweetener. The point being made is not so much about another release with some kind of revamped sound, but the short time factor between the releases. I think some fans who are complaining would be a little more forgiving had FTD put out the Aloha set several years ago in the Classic Album series to plug the shelf gap and then Sony put out a better deluxe version 5 or 6 years later on mainstream.

You see, I was under the impression that FTD was set up for serious collectors to get the slightly rarer stuff on a collectors label, but with this mainstream release, and unless it completely mirrors the FTD Aloha release so that collectors don’t need it, it looks like the reverse is happening.

We’ve just had what appears to be the best MSG set from FTD, but maybe this time next year, Sony will put out another version for mainstream but with the main show using the Jap Quad mix minus a couple of songs like the LP.
