Have you heard the Savannah soundboard? On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 11:49 amThe Orlando soundboard tape has technical problems with Elvis' voice buried under layers of sound. In its unaltered state, the recording is very reminiscent of an instrumental, in large parts anyway. Samples of what I'm talking about are out there on various bootlegs. The producers of the TFC box-set (to everyone's amazement) managed to fix much of this, but FTD apparently don't want to go down that route or simply re-use the bootlegger's efforts. A Savannah soundboard recording exists but has similar problems.

Re: New FTD: The Last Tours Vol.1 (4CD) & California Holiday 2LP
My view is, if you've been a dedicated collector for years, and have almost all the audio that came out, then you might as well get this "final tours" set.
On the other hand, if you're new to the scene, then you have a vast amount of better stuff out there. It depends on how deep your pockets are, and how many shelves you have left?
We love to have Elvis stuff lined up in a row.

Re: New FTD: The Last Tours Vol.1 (4CD) & California Holiday 2LP
My thought on this is that there are soundboards recorded by Bruce Jackson, and those recorded by Bill Porter and or/Felton.vinelvis wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 1:31 am
But I still think it's weird: Elvis performed some very mediocre shows during the summer of 1976 with all shows having the same setlist (with some exceptions). Yet multiple complete soundboards from all 1976 tours have surfaced. The December tour has at least 3 (almost) complete soundboards. The February 1977 tour, only 1.5 months later has 0.
Elvis soundboard recordings will never cease to amaze me. When you think there's a pattern, it only makes sense for one year or one tour. If the repetitivenes was really the cause for the incomplete 1977 soundboards, why are so many 1976 soundboards complete? Almost all of the June 1975 soundboards miss the opening songs. One could say they are not recorded because of repetitivenes, but why are they recorded again in December and again in 1976?
I always ask myself these kind of questions, but I think we'll never get a definitive answer.

Plus it's all down to the cost of tape and how much the colonel would pay for the tapes to record the shows.

My advice...go and get it...although I am biased. I am s supporter and Promoter of the
label. At least I am honest..
Cisco - I agree with you 99.9% of the time when it comes to FTD. As I have stated before, I have almost every CD that the label has issued, but if it weren't for the fact that almost everything on this set was issued years ago on "The Final Curtain" set, my order would have already been placed. I can't imagine the sound being that much better either as the sound of these shows on that set is pretty doggone good for mono soundboards. So, in order to get that scant few tracks that I don't have in my collection, I would have to pay $80.00 plus shipping for this set from FTD. I have a hard time justifying paying just shy of $100.00 for 10 - 12 songs I already have many times over. In fact, I saw Elvis twice in concert and both concert tickets combined doesn't come up to even half of what this set costs.
I recommend this set for anyone who doesn't own the 'Final Curtain" set. The shows are a bittersweet enjoyment knowing that these were indeed the 'Last Tours' that the man undertook. In fact, I surely had no way of knowing that when I saw him on June 25th of 1977 that he'd do his final concert the following night in Indianapolis - jus a couple of hours down the road from Cincinnati.

On the contrary, the Hendix Dagger Records label is $12.98 for a single disc CD album. You should do your homework before posting. On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:21 pmAs long as pmp is able to bitch about FTD, we're good. @pmp I've bought several 4CD sets at a similar price range over the years, Cash and Hendrix to name a few. You forget to factor in the Elvis effect (a major icon of the 20th century) and the scarcity of the product. The amount of unreleased EP recordings is limited. The amount of current and future recordings of Beethoven's 5th or Schubert's piano sonata in b-flat major (fantastic as they may be)? Sheer endless.
Check out the Hendrix collector's label Dagger Records. Their product doesn't come cheap either.
If you've been paying £58 for a Johnny Cash 4CD set in recent years, then you've been fleeced (with Unearthed being the obvious exception, but that was 20 years ago). Yes, there was the 4CD set with the giant coffee table book (and that was 14 years ago), but that was 5CDs and a DVD and...a book. I don't see any mention of a 12" by 16" book coming with the new Elvis set.

I've ordered a few Dagger Records releases before, so I know what I'm talking about. Add s/h and you're easily in the EUR 20-25 range. If you end up lucky you get to pay import duties + handling fees, that's another 10 bucks or so. You didn't go to checkout with your order, didn't you?pmp wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:45 pmOn the contrary, the Hendix Dagger Records label is $12.98 for a single disc CD album. What was released on "The Final Curtain" and previous bootlegs doesn't really matter. We shouldn't have had access to these recordings in the first place and shouldn't have bought them. As someone who managed to snag up a copy of TFC when it came out, I feel obliged to buy the first legal release of many of these recordings. And I'm happily doing it. Re: New FTD: The Last Tours Vol.1 (4CD) & California Holiday 2LP
I have given you a screengrab from the official Dagger website, for heaven's sake, and now you're contradicting me and telling me it's not the real price?! Shipping is not relevant. If you're buying outside of the country that the seller is in, then you pay postage. The DISCS are $12.98 each - that's £10 in UK money. The Elvis discs are £58 for a 4CD set (minimum - £59 without postage at the Elvis Shop). That means 6 single discs from Dagger and 4 from FTD. No excuse. On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:29 pmI've ordered a few Dagger Records releases before, so I know what I'm talking about. Add s/h and you're easily in the EUR 20-25 range. I am looking forward to the last tours vol.1 and I'm looking forward even more to vol.2. This is because I listened to spring tours 77 (FTD) today and for the most part, Elvis sounds great (for 1977) during the St. Paul (April 30th) and Chicago (May 1st, 2nd) shows. Not only that, the sound quality is excellent and any unreleased performances from these shows and others are most welcome.

"Spring Tours 77" features the 4-track recordings made on behalf of Felton Jarvis and I agree. Hopefully FTD will find a way to nicely incorporate them into any additional volumes, alongside the soundboard recordings that they have.flamingstar81 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 1:19 amI am looking forward to the last tours vol.1 and I'm looking forward even more to vol.2. These 4-tracks also have the potential to sound even better than they do on Spring Tours! Hand them over to Vic and / or Matt and we're all good

Unless they have tons of documentation about the picture we have not seen or access to the full sessions tapes, why issue a King Creole 2 book set?
