Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
one of the many qualities i love about Elvis is how so effortlessly and with grace he could transition from one genre to the next.
it is hi-lighted beautifully at these nashville sessions in '71.
here are 3 examples from these sessions...from three consecutive nights that showcase the king of genres.
may 16,1971...
the lead off track from the wonderful world of christmas.
always a favorite.
still get chills.
the next night...may 17th...Elvis records a beautiful ballad that would enter his live set-list on occassion moving forward.
one of the stand out tracks not just on the Now album...but also from these sessions in nashville.
one of his most under-rated singles from the 70s.
released w/we can make the morning as its flip...it would place just inside the top 40.
a beautiful cover.
finally...the next night...may 18th...he smoothly transitions back to his favorite music...gospel.
from his brilliant he touched me album.
written by andre crouch...i love his performance and would love to have seen it because it sounds like he put on a stage like performance while recording it.
3 nights....3 beautiful renderings from 3 genres...pulled off with professionalism....realitive ease and grace.
from the greatest artist of our time.
christmas comes in november.

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
How do you know fans do not enjoy the originals mixes. Some always crave for remixes yet when they arrive, they are not as good as expected. Personally, it’s nice to have both, but it has to be a remix of everything including overdubs. But this is what I find confusing - you question the logic of someone recording the original albums because as you wrote, you don’t think fans enjoy them, yet you appear to enjoy the YouTube posts which haven’t been remixed.Mona Lisa wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 8:36 pmNot thinking that fans still enjoy the original mixes , which is true . The thing with the recent Nashville set and the forthcoming one is that it is difficult to compare with the original mixes because we are getting them in undubbed format so they will be very different to the original finished mix. Along with the remix of the undubbed masters, it would be nice to have had the original songs remixed with overdubs, but i wonder if the overdubs are still available as a separate track or whether the only tape available is the bounced down version from 16 tracks to 2.

After spending a day transferring all the 1971 Nashville masters from original US-pressings of Elvis Now, Sings The Wonderful World of Christmas, He Touched Me, Elvis - Fool and the 1980 EAP-set, I adore these recordings more than ever. Been listening to these two cd-r’s all weekend. Great sound on the albums!

i love his vocals on this one.
one of my favorite tracks from the now album.
and one of his more underrated tracks from the 70s.
perfect listen for a saturday night.
there was some special moments in nashville in '71.
Not quite sure how "We Can Make The Morning" can be considered "underrated." This B-side never charted, and no one today connects this song to anything important regarding Elvis Presley.

Otherwise, it's a terrible piece of material, and Elvis' all-over-the-place vocal should have told Felton Jarvis and RCA to keep it on the shelf. Instead, RCA released it as a 1972 B-side, and then as an LP track. That worked out well.
That "We Can Make The Morning" was taped just two years after the American Sound sessions tells us a lot about why the 1970s were so difficult for our favorite singer.

I think you need to read my post again.
It's not "under-rated." It doesn't rate. It's third-rate.
Elvis' vocal isn't lovable. It's scattered and uninvolving.

i think its under-rated and oft over-looked.
had the now lp been structured better...song line-up wise...i think it would be seen in a different light surrounded by i'm leavin, for lovin me and the 3 solos instead of a track from '69 and 2 from the marathon in '70 and one of those,10,000yrs ago, already released.
too many times, now gets dismissed because of it.
there's some meat left on the bone.
and this track.....and that vocal...particularly toward the end...to my ears...are awesome.
dont know if it should've been the b-side to until its time for you to go....i would've picked early mornin' rain.
but as a track....i think its a damn solid song.
not great...but good.
and in my opinion...under-rated.
uninvolving....you kiddin'.

For someone of Elvis Presley's stature to be wasting his time and talent in 1971-1972 on a song by Jay Ramsey says it all about what happened to his career after 1970.
It's on the level of a pedestrian Partridge Family album track.

he hits some great notes but it's way overdone.
I don't seek it out but i don't skip it either.
it will be interesting to hear the undubbed master take because my guess is the overdubs and backing vocals covered up what Elvis was trying or over-trying to do.
while there are standout tracks in the Nashville 71 masters, overall the material is not as strong as had been recorded in 1970 at the same studio. Maybe hearing them together will tell a different story.
besides the Christmas and religious sides the secular material should not have been spread over three albums. The best of the recordings should have made one very good album release and the rest remain in the vault until after 1977. If that had happened, the 1971 recordings might have been successfull at the time.
Always Elvis

In the grand scheme of things, it cannot really be underrated if people are not that aware of it. The song means nothing to the majority of people outside of the fanbase because they don’t know it exists so they cannot rate it - it certainly does not stand out in the history of Elvis recordings as a reference recording - we aren’t talking Don’t Be Cruel or In The Ghetto versions 2 here. As for fans rating it….the jury is probably still out and dependant on the mood of the day. That said, you seem to be an obsessive in overrating things which isn’t good for your state of mind…..214 posts in 7 days reveals all - no wonder you are often in the dog house . and one of his more underrated tracks from the 70s.
perfect listen for a saturday night.
there was some special moments in nashville in '71.

That "We Can Make The Morning" was taped just two years after the American Sound sessions tells us a lot about why the 1970s were so difficult for our favorite singer.
thats why its under-rated.
love his vocals on it.
always one of my favorite tracks from the Now lp.
november...come quickly.
As for eric c, I like his posts and his enthusiasm, keep going and keep it up, buddy.
thank you.

I wonder how it might not be good for one's "state of mind" to be positive, appreciative, and enthusiastic about the things you like. Often, I wonder about your state of mind. Oy - I go on vacation and come back to a 14 page thread of arguments on the merits of this release.
We can't just be happy can we?
I'm looking forward to the OSM versions of some very enjoyable songs.
Take 1 of "I'm Leavin" is terrific.

It's 800 miles from my house to Graceland, but I'm always up for making the trip!

Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
I'm going to with emjel on this one as I don't quite understand why you (eric) keep posting commonly known link after youtube link of all the upcoming Nashville set songs in this thread. At first I thought they were more previews, but it turns out that they are just the familiar known recordings. That you are passionate about the songs is fine and dandy and by all means feel free to start a thread and flood it with these links. However this topic already 14 pages long and I can only imagine where we'll be if you post every single song from the upcoming set with the links provided. Just a thought to consider.emjel wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 9:43 amIn the grand scheme of things, it cannot really be underrated if people are not that aware of it. Re: Elvis Back In Nashville (4 cd Box Set)
Thanks Ryan73 - Yes that’s exactly what I thought too. The thread is about the new forthcoming set so whenever I get a notification, I think some new relevant info has been discovered and uploaded. Others probably think along those lines too.Ryan73 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 11:34 pmI'm going to with emjel on this one as I don't quite understand why you (eric) keep posting commonly known link after youtube link of all the upcoming Nashville set songs in this thread.
