A new track from the upcoming release.
I was hoping for something else…oh well.
You were expecting Promised Land? Me too.
I love the grains and texture of the voice in this version.
I am keenly looking forward to this set.

I am really interested to hear what Mr Ross-Spang managed with the Stax sound. Hopefully, he will have added lustre to all audio from those sessions.

Without disliking it, I'd prefer the rough mix from the 'Boulevard' FTD. The room echo gives it a better atmosphere.

Promised land next then.. this Danny Boy preview is less relevant and doesn't reveal anything.
You can argue if it's an improvement in the first place, Matt Ross already worked on this track several years ago (Way Down in the jungle room) and there's little to no difference.
That said, it will be interesting to explore the new set once released, I'm sure several tracks will sound great.

Yes, I agree about "Danny Boy". No surprises they picked "Danny Boy" as one of their advertisements for the shop window , but I'm more interested in all the work carried out on the Stax audio; that's where the sonic changes can potentially be more important. It will be interesting to see if anything at all was achieved with them. The Jungle Room sessions might have a little less reverb this time, but I'm not expecting as much from any of those tracks as from the other sessions..

Wow... 'Danny Boy' sounds FANTASTIC! Piano and backing vocals are much better in this mix as compared to the FTD rough mix. Elvis voice sounds FANTASTIC! Wow, wow, wow!!

His voice sounds somewhat like the How Great Thou Art sessions: full and tender, and with his famous vibrato. Just a little weaker, but one of the strongest performances of the last 2 years.

Danny Boy has really grown on me over the years. It's hard to believe this was recorded at the same sessions as Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain or I'll Never Fall In Love Again. Just sometimes I can even hear a little bit of Elvis' 1970 voice on this one. I'm glad Felton didn't get carried away with the overdubs and we're left with quite a sparse arrangement. It's not my favourite song from the Jungle Room, but I do think it's, by far, the best vocal.

Danny Boy has been a favorite of mine for many years - this mix is very, very close to what we had on WDITJR but it's still nice to hear it again.

It's 800 miles from my house to Graceland, but I'm always up for making the trip!

You mean the remixed outtake on that CD i assume. Because the masters were not remixed for that release.

Hear a never-heard mix of the Elvis song "Danny Boy"
To marks the 70th anniversary of Elvis' debut single release "That's All Right” a mix from the other bookend of Elvis' hometown recording career, "Danny Boy,” is released.
Goldmine Staff July 19, 2024

Today marks the 70th anniversary of Elvis' history-making debut single release "That's All Right," and to celebrate the occasion RCA/Legacy have shared a new look at their upcoming 111-track 'MEMPHIS' box (out August 9). That advance preview comes in the form of a never-heard mix from the other bookend of Elvis' hometown recording career - "Danny Boy" from the famed 1976 Jungle Room sessions at Graceland.

This version of "Danny Boy" has been reworked by Matt Ross-Spang, the four-time GRAMMY winner and Memphis native (credits include John Prine, Al Green, Margo Price, Jason Isbell) — removing overdubs and leaving the listener with only what Elvis heard live in the room at the time ... as if they were standing next to him.

“It was very emotional for me to mix ‘Danny Boy’ and I think it’s evident in Elvis’ performance that it was for him too," says Ross-Spang. "David Briggs, one of Elvis’ pianists on the session made it clear to me that it was a very important song to Elvis. I think it’s one of his most impassioned vocal performances. My neck hairs were standing up the whole time!”

In the collection's liner notes, Grammy and Emmy-winning music historian (and fellow Memphis native) Robert Gordon reflects: "'Danny Boy' is personal. It’s Elvis' father’s favorite song, and one that has survived across generations and continents. A song about love across distances and realms, Elvis imbues it with some of the dark compassion he put into “Long Black Limousine” seven years earlier.'"

Doesn’t mean anything. It’ll be a fluff review so a wasted read  . And If you’ve just bought the mag, I’d ask for a refund.

So there’s no truth in that rumour that’s being spread by Union Ave. you know, the bit about the …Do you dare me to make it eight….

And yes, that Amazon price was and is amazing. Maybe someone at Sony UK woke up to the idea that price is an important consideration these days if you want decent sales. The fact that so many outside the UK are buying from Amazon UK speaks volumes.

No worries. As we say over here: a good wine doesn't need an endorsement, so I've already ordered my copy of this superb Sony release.

Have you?
It might help if we knew who you were addressing, but if it's me, yup, ordered 14th June. Looking forward to it.

I ordered it after having listening to this Danny boy version... What is always unique with Elvis is that, even after + 30 years of intensely listening to his recordings, official and unofficial, he still can surprise you and blow your mind. This is just a pure diamond that I never even knew it existed when listening to the original FEPB version. What a singer, it's just incredible.

I’ve loved this take 9 version of “Danny Boy” and it isn’t much different than what we first heard on the “Platinum” set 27 years ago.

It's pretty close to what for Elvis CD collectors enjoyed 18 years ago:
