I was looking at the track listings for this release…..I’m sorry but Elvis in 1971 is a shadow of the man from 1969 and 1970. A poor Christmas album, weakest of his gospel offerings and a half hearted attempt at a folk album. He bounces back in 1972 but, really, are we that excited about this year. I am an Elvis fan but I have to be honest…..Jmho

The producers are making the best of a very mixed group of recordings.

Some are great, many are okay, more than a few are substandard.

As I posted before, it's a long walk from American Sound in 1969 to Nashville in 1971.

1969 Memphis > 1970 Nashville > 1971 Nashville
I will decide come release time. For now I am quite happy with my copy of FTD's I sing all kinds. Great sound, nice compilation and as far as '71 is concerned; it's more than enough. The box might be interesting for the undubbed masters but they might also emphasise the apparent deficiencies of these sessions.

Playable if you have an account:

The track is messy but listenable. Elvis and band are both finding their way through the song.

It’s take 1. Sit back relax and leave the driving to Elvis. It’s like everyone is trying to pick fly sh*t out of pepper. Buy the set or don’t, but at least wait until it’s released before you declare it DOA.

one of my favorite tracks from these sessions from nashville in '71.
one of my favorite cuts from the brilliant he touched me album...the best album from these sessions.
i love his performance on this.
it sounds like its straight from vegas.
he gets back to that pioneer spirit...offering his voice to a new sound in gospel...contemporary christian...he was clearly tuned into.
gospel was not only in his wheel house...but dead center of his musical soul.
he loved it deeply.
and it shows.
he emptied his bucket.

this is one i can't wait to hear on the new set.
november.
hurry please.

That’s just over 411,700 streams which if a physical single track off the album would equate to sales of 411 copies which is slightly lower than the couple of preview tracks on the previous Nashville set ("I Washed My Hands" and "Funny How Times Slips Away"). That set in the last 9 months now has equivalent world sales of around 8,600 copies.

In simplistic terms and on average, it seems to be, but It’s a bit more complicated than that - in a recent agreement for services from places like Spotify that offers subscription and free streaming within an ad service, the numbers/algorithm are different. Under the updated album equivalent ratios, 1,250 premium audio streams are required, whilst 3,750 ad-supported streams are required. So on Spotify, songs from the Nashville set have total streams of 8,600,000, but the problem is that some songs are streamed more than others, so for example There Goes My Everything has been streamed around 58,000 times whilst I Washed My Hands is over one million. All the numbers are added up and then the algorithm is applied across the album and you end up with equivalent album sales.

Elvis hasn’t received any awards from RIAA yet based on digital streams or sales?

How is it distinguished between a stream in India vs one in the USA? Assuming only USA streams count toward RIAA awards.

In my opinion you cannot say that this many streams equates to this many sales. Times move on and the modern charts should be on streams alone. If for instance here in the UK Ed Shearan has 1 million streams in a week of his next single and lets say Ariana Grande has 900 thousand then Ed Shearans single is number 1 in the UK charts for that week. Maybe have a seperate chart for current Cd & vinyl sales but to combine them, to me seems useless. I don't care if Elvis never charts again his achievements & recorded legacy speaks for itself as does anyone else who is now deceased or no longer an active artist. Music is far more accessible now than it ever was and to try and compare current artists sales and chart statistics to previous generations is silly really.

Physical sales, downloads and streaming combine for RIAA awards. And yes, it would have to be US streams to qualify. As far as I am aware, the IP address of the hardware can log what country the stream is being done. The streaming numbers on Spotify are worldwide numbers which can be analysed into different countries for chart purposes etc. Elvis has not as far as I am aware received any awards purely on streaming, and I doubt he ever will, but streams could be added to physical sales. Last years Nashville set has overall total worldwide sales including streaming of around 17k since it was released 9 months ago.

Why don't you give it a rest ? I liked Padre from the moment I first heard it on release, still do and always will.

Everyone now realises you don't like the performance, which is your prerogative, but do you have to keep shoving your opinion down our throats ?

But you can and it is and this is what has been agreed by the various parties involved. There are separate album charts based on pure sales and also charts that cover vinyl only. I don’t think anyone is comparing Elvis or any other iconic artists from decades ago with the current mega popular artists, which as you state would be completely pointless.

But to do a rough comparison of artists from days gone by, George Harrison’s recent anniversary release of All Things Must Pass had U.K. sales of 5.4K and in the US, 27.8k of which 99% were based on physical sales. Yes, tiny numbers compared with those from years gone by, but that is still around 15k more in a week and in just two countries than From Elvis in Nashville in 9 months. Fleetwood Mac’s "Rumours" had equivalent album sales last week of 15.4K in the US and over 3k in the U.K. I guess that’s the only kind of comparison’s that you can make.

Is this set in the same horse crap, el-cheapo cardboard packaging? Man I miss CD jewel cases. The CDs are always packed in tight and I end up ripping the cardboard and destroying my product. How I wish I could have CD jewel cases again.

It's a good thing nobody has recorded ME opening my CDs.

I think you only have to look at the ads and the EPE broadcast to realise that this set will be the same as the previous one - same format and same size etc.

So have Sony come out and said that From Elvis in Nashville has sold less than 10 thousand worldwide?

simple answer NO...SONY rarely (if at all) give out sales figures for Elvis products.
