I pre-ordered the MEMPHIS BOX from amazon.co.uk as that price was unbeatable!! Vintage Rock magazine well I have every issue and thoroughly enjoy them.
So there’s no truth in that rumour that’s being spread by Union Ave. you know, the bit about the …Do you dare me to make it eight….

And yes, that Amazon price was and is amazing. Maybe someone at Sony UK woke up to the idea that price is an important consideration these days if you want decent sales. The fact that so many outside the UK are buying from Amazon UK speaks volumes.
Well from Amazon , UK have to add on postage and 10% gst tax but I still ordered it for A$80 which compares VERY favourably to any other Australian seller + eBay often offers a very attractive price. UNTIL you add on ludicrous expensive postage on an item. .at least Amazon UK was very reasonable on postage.

Wow, so Amazon.es offers the identical product for 28 Euros, while Amazon.de has it for 75 Euros. That is insane.
Still be passing on buying this release and will only listen to it through amazon music for no additional cost with the prime membership.

Yes Amazon around the world not only charges different amounts for the same product, but then you need to consider postage cost and any taxes applicable if importing!

I ordered it after having listening to this Danny boy version... What is always unique with Elvis is that, even after + 30 years of intensely listening to his recordings, official and unofficial, he still can surprise you and blow your mind. This is just a pure diamond that I never even knew it existed when listening to the original FEPB version. What a singer, it's just incredible.
Like all great artists, there are layers of meaning and beauty in Elvis. I too have rediscovered this song because of this version.

It's $107 plus tax here in Canada. I've been purchasing the last few releases from i-music in Europe and with overseas postage it is still much cheaper than buying it locally in my hometown. Makes no sense to me.

Surely this is the master!! As on take 9 Elvis sings "when summers in the valleys" On this the master Elvis sings " when summers in the meadows"
On previous versions of the master On the line " find the place where i am lying " Elvis pops the line " place " on this version its clear as a bell. Have they inserted " place" from take 9? Let me know your thoughts!

These tracks seem to be missing from the American Sound Sessions:

This Is The Story
A Little Bit of Green
My Little Friend
Inherit The Wind
I'll Be There
And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind
If I'm A Fool For Loving You
Who Am I?

From Stax these tracks seem to be missing:

Girl of Mine
Mr. Songman
Thinking About You
Love Song of the Year

MT
I really wish the 3 highlighted songs was to be included on the new box set,the rest I wont miss.
( or maybe i will miss Inherit The Wind a little)
Also this could have been the first time that we got the extended/complete master of TAY in a good mix.
I`m not a fan of the longer version mix released on OMOE vol 2 in 1979 although the version released as a bonus
on Promised Land paper sleeve edition (japan) in 2008 is in much better audio quality than any other CD with this track.

Why do you think RCA made those choices?

Because the Rubberneckin remix was a massive success twenty years ago, reaching the top 20 in 14 countries, and putting the original track on a set aimed at the general public might have helped persuade people to buy it?

Or maybe a ragged jam session is seen as more commercial than three strong finished masters?

Who knows how the people at Sony think?

I find it odd they omit these as well. So why did they make these choices?

I also find that odd. It seems to me that if everything can't be released, it should not be released at all. Even if I wanted to purchase the box, that would leave me not wanting it because its incomplete.

If the plan was never to include everything, then the set is not "incomplete."

Why do you think RCA chose these songs for the set? What were the determining factors?

Hey Jude…because the original was a huge hit, the song is well known, it was getting recorded by lots of people around the time and it has a high curiosity value. Plus the fact it is the track on the Elvis Now album that is streamed the most, but probably more out of curiosity than anything else.

This Time/I Cant’t Stop Loving You, basically the same reason because it has a curiosity value. But this was never destined for a release except when needed to provide something of interest for an unheard and unreleased recording but which it questionable whether it should be in judged in favour of other songs that were intended for a proper release. Streaming numbers are not that high when put against all the songs on the Back in Memphis album.

Mama Liked The Roses is anyone’s guess although it rates much higher in the streaming numbers against songs included on the Back in Memphis album, but that’s because it is included on the first Memphis album which by name has a status of being recognised as one of his best albums and as an album, gets more streaming than the second Memphis album.

But for the sake of completeness, and adding one more disc, everything that was taped for record release should have been included to stop all the questions "why was this included and why was that left out?

Is there any chance that the tracks that were left out of the physical version will be released on streaming?
Has anyone heard anything?
