Well, that is true. Although I rarely clean my records. But turning the record over is like a ritual that I kind of enjoy, it makes you more involved in the music somehow. I bought a new turntable last year, a Thorens TD 350, and it's a joy to use and sounds marvellous.Claus wrote:Yeah, but with vinyl you must clean the record, the stylus, turn the record over etc. It all takes time...Keith Richards, Jr. wrote:But that is yet another hassle - burning DVDs...

I bet it does. Thorens is a classic brand and it's very highly regarded.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
I kinda like relaxing when listening to my music. In Elvis' case, and many of the albums, having to get up after around 14/15 minutes to turn the record over doesn't do it for me anymore. Even more so if it's a live album as it tends to disrupt the flow of the performance.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
You can use a normal burner program for it. They can also be burned to DVD-audio, but that requires a specific player like the ones from Oppo, Cambridge and Denon.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Hi-res audio files are not easy to burn to a DVD audio.
It is not like burning normal audio file.
And if you burn a hi-res audio file on CD it is no more hi-res audio file.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
That's why it's easier to put the files on a usb stick and play them through your dvd/blu-ray player which must be hooked up to your stereo system.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Yes but with numerical music you are dependent of a technical problem.
The usb stick, the hd can always be destroyed or no more functionning.
The vinyl doesn't have those technical issue.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
That's right, but vinyl has many other problems. The list is looooooooooooong. It's high maintenance but it sounds marvellous when everything is right
Even cd's and cdr's can have rot-problems so nothing is bullet proof.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Vinyl stay much more longer and we don't have to have technical knowledge to listen to vinyl and to make the maintenance.
I have vinyl since 55 years and they are always there and I can still play them.
I am almost sure that in 20 years almost 50% of the people who have downloaded their music will lose what they have bought maybe not all but at least a part.
Personnally I only download hi-res files. Except the music that doesn't exist on physical support.
They are in the HD where it is downloaded. I copy them after, in a external HD and on a USB stick and now I have enough files to complete a bluray disc where I will save them as data files and not musical file.
PS I have found the answer of my question.
In fact I have converted my files of HDtracks in flac uncompressed with dbpoweramp.
DBpoweramp is the only soft in my knowing that convert a file to flac without any compression. And my flac files are almost the same size as the wav file correspondant.
All the other soft give only 3 degree of compression: Fast default and slow. And there are only few difference between the 3.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Claus says it's easy to burn tracks to a DVD using a normal burner. Phil indicates that this is not that easy, but no one gives any firm clarification. Claus, you say you burn your hi res tracks to DVD so can you let me know what software you use so that Phil and myself know that it is easy. Ta.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
It's easy to create normal DVD-audio but we are speaking of Hi-res files that's not the same.
Personnally I don't think it's possible to create audio DVD with Hi-res files.
For me I think we should better look on bluray.
But we have to remind that the hi-res audio files are not intended to be convert on audio DVD or audio bluray. They have to be played on a hi-res player.
Even if it is possible to create audio hi-res dvd or bluray with the same quyality, we still must conserve the original files.
Now I have almost 50 GB of Elvis Hi-res files for 41 Elvis titles

DVD-V discs
Use Audiomuxer to make/build the dvd:
http://www.videohelp.com/software/AudioMuxer
Use IMGBurn to burn the dvd to a disc.
http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download&
The Audiomuxer program is easy to use and self-explanatory.
1 Press "Select Audio" and select the Audio files (flac and wav only)
2 Make sure that Mux To is set to dvd.
3 Press "Mux to" and select the destination for the output folder
4 The program will build the dvd.
The program creates the folder "Video_TS"
5 Open Imgburn and choose "Write files/folders to disc
6 Click file/Browse for a source file
7 Select all the files in the Video_TS folder
8 Press "Burn"
Done
For dvd-audio discs I use DVD Audio Solo. It costs $50 but very easy to use and reliable. I have not found a free program that will burn DVD-A discs.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
OK for your soft.
It looks that it works and you can put about 50 hi-res songs on a DVD.
It's easy to use for somebody that have the habitude of informatic.
To convert the hi-res file on DVD is not the normal use of those type of files.
Personnally I will wait and I will buy sometime later a good hi-res player.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Maybe not, but it works and the files remain at the correct resolution. Of course it all depends on the equipment. The better the player/dac is, the better results.
I burn all my hi-res files to dvd-audio. It's just like playing cds.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
I have 3 External hard drives that hold my music, (2 are back ups). I am able to plug it into my receiver and play them on that. HD sound and all, no need for me to spend $500 on one of those streaming systems. I use vinyl way more though. There's not too much maintenance as long as you take care of things. Brushing off records is not a hassle and I personally enjoy switching sides and letting that needle drop.

The files are 24 bit 96 kHz so, they are more than just a digital copy of the corresponding CD''s.
I am downloading FEIM and 68 Special now. I will have a listening session tomorrow.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Elvis Is Back and Something For Everybody are not the 2007 remasters. Some of the 50s albums are the 2007 remasters but I haven't checked them all. The sources for the For Lp Fans Only album are much inferior to the newer remasters. Elvis For Everyone is sourced from the original album master. Some songs have more reverb than the 2007 remaster or the FTD.
