Whilst I liked the film and it was a huge success I would say half the serious Elvis fans I meet personally dislike the film for quite a few reasons ... mostly the artistic film making licence that omits key people in Elvis's life and over dramatise or in correctly depict events in his life.
I am in agreement with you, totally. Now, here below are the 42 actors and child actors who either played in films about his life, or parts of it, whether true, or fictional, or played even his ghost, or did his voice, or anything under the sun that reminded the viewer of one Elvis Presley. And of all of them, I prefer Austin Butler and Chayton Jay's takes on Elvis and Elvis as a boy, respectively, as they appeared in Baz Luhrmann's film, with all its mistakes, which are many, over any of the others.

NOTE The source of this message to you, quoted verbatin, is from a section of a Wikipedia page which I started, AGES ago.

Of course ironically we already know that people such as Linda Thompson were filmed but not included in the finished film but will (eventually) feature in an extended 4 hour version

Bruce Jackson Born June 3rd 1949- Died January 29th 2011 Elvis's Sound Engineer from 1971-1977.

Though I enjoyed Baz's film and love how it came out, I still have some of the same criticisms that YDKM and Yamaguchi.Y explain above. If this is to be a significant biopic some accuracy is important regarding timeline too. Although I also understand some of the artistic license. It's still my go-to biopic for the uneducated beginning fan, however.

Accuracy is important when dealing with historical impact and telling the story of an entertainer like Elvis Presley.
From the beginning Baz always said it was not a biopic. IMHO it is by far the best “Elvis” movie ever if for no other reason the attention to detail among other things.

As of today, "Elvis" by Baz Luhrmann was ranked #3 in Billboard magazine's now once again up dated list of the top 25 DOMESTIC grossing films about a musician's life, It covers musicians in the Blues/R&B, Classical, Contemporary Christian, Country, Latin, Pop, Raggae, Rap, and Rock music categories.

NOTE by Jaime1234. Worldwide, and if we refer to Box Office Mojo's findings, "Elvis " (having earned $288m) would rank #2, outgrossing its own domestic #2 "Straight Outta Compton" (which earned $202,182,981 worldwide, by over $85m).

Since neither of the top domestic films about musicians, namely #1 "Bohemian Rhapsody" and #2 "Straight Outta Compton" is mainly about a person who was a solo perforner, it becomes apparent that it is "Elvis" which is currently the top grossing film about a solo musician, american or otherwise, domestic or otherwise, of all time.

It is also the flm (about a musician), with more Oscar nominations (8) in this the 21st Century, and the second in cinema history, in a tie with "Yankee Doodle Dandy" which had also 8 noms, the all time winner being "Amadeus" which garnered 11.

Finally, Elvis Presley is the person whose name is mentioned in the most number of films that made the list, namely in "The Buddy Holly Story", "Selena", "Rocketman", "Walk the line" and of course, "Elvis". He is also tied with Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valenz as being a character in two of the 25 movies.

Here's the Billboard article of a few hours ago

The numbers are $3 million out. It’s over $32 million now. They’ll be pretty happy with that number considering it was a low key kind of movie.

There's absolutely nothing to suggest that Priscilla has been anything other than a success. Which has been good to see. Especially when taking into account the financial challenges Sofia Coppola unfortunately faced in development and during production. Which is a conversation unto itself.

So you say we should feel joy here, when somebody/something puts Elvis down?

The reality is that whilst Elvis is regarded as a truly iconic entertainer, that does not mean he did not have faults especially in his private life.

Well in actual fact it was an answer to your question. The problem is that you didn’t like the answer. So let me ask you a question. Why do you feel so aggrieved or feel the need to challenge someone when they wrote "There's absolutely nothing to suggest that Priscilla has been anything other than a success. How is "Priscilla" doing, Jaime? Sounds like it's a nightmare for those involved in creating it, I hear.

Good!

:D :D :D :D
The numbers tell a siimlar story,

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Priscilla-(2023)#tab=summary
The numbers are $3 million out. It’s over $32 million now. They’ll be pretty happy with that number considering it was a low key kind of movie.
There's absolutely nothing to suggest that Priscilla has been anything other than a success. Which has been good to see. Especially when taking into account the financial challenges Sofia Coppola unfortunately faced in development and during production. Which is a conversation unto itself.
Why???
Don’t you like to see good results with something you have worked on?
You have worked on this movie??
Is there any real relevance in that reply? Where did I remotely imply that I worked on this movie?

The point that Greystoke was making is that Sofia Coppola will regard the movie as having success and be pleased with the financial outcome of her movie despite things she faced whilst making it and that result it is good to see. Why do you have a problem with Greystoke’s comment, especially the last part?

Austin Butler knew what was best for him...
I can't wait to see his new movie The Bikeriders due June 21, 2024.

And I need to watch Masters of the Air.

Right!! Also, it would be "exquisite" , for lack of a better word, if Timothée Chalamet convinces him as well asd Bob Dylan and Jay Cocks, for that matter, to do a "cameo" in James Mangold's "A complete unknown" which finally started filming, in fact less than a week ago, on March 16. I have already sent the idea for the cameo to Chalamet, but it woud be a tough sell for Dylan to go along with that particular idea itself. As to Cocks? Who knows.

Chalamet, a person who appreciates the admiration Dylan has for the early Elvis, consideers "Elvis" by Baz Luhrman amongst his favourite biopics ever and even has a current bromance with Butler. Moreover he can claim to have helped garner close to $600m for movie producers, in JUST domestic grosses for three of the movies he starred on, and what's even better, in JUST the last three years. Worldwide, we are talking about those three films grossing $1.6b, since 2021 and counting...

Check Chalemet's DOMESTIC credentials...

The mention about Chalamet's wishing Butler to appear as "Elvis" in "A complete unknown" is at 4,06 in this clip and at exactly 4.29 he names "Elvis" his favourite music biopic ever....
