I'm here to tell you I'm blown away by the sound on the rehearsal show, to the point of getting a little misty.

Listen to Burton's fills on Mountain and Welcome To My World. Same for Hardin, panned left.

All the recorded drum tracks are heard. Makes quite a difference, hmm?

Even the throwaway oldies have guts, if ever so briefly.

In the big, dramatic moments, Elvis is loud and clear, and FANtastic. Listen to the end of WNML.

Yes. and I finally like the performances of 'Something'! Kathy's clear voice has always been there, but it now has an evocative, warm beauty. I appreciate her contribution as much as Elvis'. When I watched the Blu-ray afterwards, I noticed Elvis always turns to her the moment she comes in on the performance. It affects him too.

I got my replacement copy from Amazon.co.uk very quickly in 3 days.

I got screwed by the courier along the way.
I was at work and the courier didn't respond to my phone calls trying to settle the delivery time and left postal advice....

I just came back from the post office.

They packaged it twice this time in a cardboard.
It still has folded sides...

No words!

And now I have to take time to return the two copies I now have back to Amazon and wait until they return shipping costs.

This was my first order ever from Amazon and certainly not a good experience.

I watched the video you posted, how and from where does one order this book? It really looks interesting? Maybe I just missed it on the video. Thanks
I did not see it either, so I looked up the website, obtained an email address and asked them to send details in English. I will post again when I get an answer.
That would be great. Thanks very much.

Looks like a good book which would be a nice addition to the Aloha material we have already. Thanks

Amazon used to be the best. Now they ship items like these in thin paper bags.
Luckily mine was in good shape.

Mine came in a large box, with packing material and another box inside. So, two boxes and packing material. Since then my next two orders of cable products arrived in brown paper bags. I think they have changed their packaging policy.

I'm not sure you can blame Amazon alone for this. These packages from Sony are very flimsy and frail. My "On Tour" set arrived looking like a pancake. Sony should take a look at Rhino's boxsets.

My photography my not be the best but here are some video comparisons from my viewing seat.

Thanks for this I think it shows up the difference nicely. I was thinking about trying this myself but my camera phone is crap tbh so it wouldn't have worked. I think overall the package is great. Surely, the mix/mastering is the best of any professional non Vegas concerts we have? It makes the FTD release look a bit cynical though - only getting one disk remixed when surely they would have been done at the same time and available to use? Not withstanding that the sound is top drawer.

Whilst I think the bluray is an improvement I do think they have missed an opportunity, presumably down to cost. Although, it was filmed on video tape they could surely have re-scanned and up-sampled to make further improvements. I use an Epsom 4k Projector which actually uses a HD baseline which is then upscaled x 4 to get to a pseudo 4k image. It works well and you would be hard pressed to notice the difference from a native 4k Projector. So presumably the software is there to make improvements to the video source despite its Standard Definition source. I'm not suggesting it could look as good as a 35mm 4k scan, just that it could be improved perhaps up to HD level?

Also, as they have added new LPCM 5.1/2.1 tracks they could have added a reference track using the new mix/mastering. I've seen this done before where there is a Theatrical track and a Studio reference track available.

cheers Jamie

I watched the whole concert (14th) today with planar magnetic headphones having selected the LPCM stereo track. It was great, I could really hear tones in EP's voice that were either masked by the original mix or I was not paying enough attention (for 40 years). The whole thing sounded like a veil of mud had been removed. I used to think the rendition of "Something" was a touch lazy in the trailing notes, but now I hear it differently, there is more modulation and subtlety there. Obviously it was always there but Mr. Ross-Spang has really brought it out.

Thank you. That's very nice of you!

I'd been thinking about buying or ordering it a local store so I know what I'm paying for but decided to give it a last chance!

If this is also damaged, I will get back to you. Hope it won't be too expensive for a metal safety box to ship in here :D

You are completely right. I just purchased from Rhino Stevie Nicks Complete Studio Albums & Rarities
16 LP Set
. Rhino shipped them in a custom made box that was lined with foam. It arrived in perfect shape.

If only FTD and Sony would do the same.

Doing custom made packaging for a big 16 LP set is one thing, but getting Sony and FTD to do it on 8" sets will simply increase the price too much for such a low value item. Sony could of course use a heavier/sturdier card on the actual slip case like they do with their Dylan Bootleg Sets, but then they also include hardback books which also add internal protection.

Just got my package.

It's been packaged the same way as the 2nd one - two cardboards packaging rather than a box which I wishes for when ordering as a "gift".

Still folded. Three times in a row...

I'm done with this nonsense!

I'd stick with that one.

The CDs aren't folded and will still sound good.

I know I might have OCD on this but as a collector I'm really bothered. I want the package with no flaws.

If I only wanted music, I'd stick with Spotify and no physical releases.

Anyone wants 3 folded copies of the Aloha boxset? :facep:

You may have to find a store that sells the set. The cover itself is rather flimsy. My cover wasn't perfect, either.

I don't think much will change if you keep ordering through the mail.....unfortunately.

Have you adjusted the colour etc because the projector needed adjusting anyway, or is it the case that now you've done it everything else you watch looks wrong? I'm just trying to establish whether this still means the disc is at fault.
I adjusted the projector because I thought Elvis' face was a strange colour. An unnatural hue of orange. So I reduced it, but that means everything else is off. How they managed to make his face so saturated with colour without effecting other elements I don't know. Perhaps this is due to the NTSC source because the 2004 were like this too, not so much but similar. The pictures I posted illustrate this. So, is it my system?, I think not, Since 2004 I have had a Samsung HD tv, an LG OLED and now the projector, it has been similar on all of them, I have to adjust the colour to watch Aloha.
The 68 Special is similar.

Since taking these pictures, i have adjusted the colour balance, tint, and sharpness on the projector. The result is a significant improvement.
I will send more pictures when I get the time.
That's why I was asking. If you were adjusting the colours etc, and suddenly all your discs and streaming apps looked better, then that would mean the Aloha disc wasn't at fault. But clearly it is.
I don't know why the NTSC colour system is so strange (I once heard a video technician describe NTSC as standing for "Never The Same Colour" when i worked in the video duplication factory, my first job out of school). The UK PAL system is, or rather was, much better. Or it could be that when the source tape was digitized back in the 2000's someone decided to ramp up the colour, but then no one else on stage looks an odd colour.

For this issue they clearly used the same digital transfer because the error made then where the introduction segment used footage from both the 12th and the 14th is still there. I was hoping they would fix that.

I'm not sure you can blame Amazon alone for this. These packages from Sony are very flimsy and frail. My "On Tour" set arrived looking like a pancake. Sony should take a look at Rhino's boxsets.

I guess my point was that Amazon, Sony & FTD could all do a better job.

When my deluxe set of That's The Way It Is (FTD) was sent out it was packaged
in a small thin cardboard box. And that was a very expensive set. FTD could have
easily made a custom box for it like Rhino did with the the Stevie Nicks set.

Just incase there are any Stevie Nicks fans here. The Rhino box set of hers,
Stevie Nicks Complete Studio Albums & Rarities 16 LP set is about sold out.
Of 3000 copies made of the set, there is less than 100 left.
