The original mono 45. That's the way...they were intended to be heard and played over Radio way back when.

The latest issue of the Garden concerts again. I like this version so much all other versions have been erased from my servers (I still have the CD's as back up of course).

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I'm still working through the 88cd set of conductor Ernest Ansermet, and with a 120 cd set of conductor Eugene Ormandy winging its way to me, I'm probably with classical for a while!
The Ansermet has some wonderful performances, but the shine has been taken off it by the errors. I've never known so many outside of an Elvis product. Two discs are being replaced - except Amazon aren't willing to send them out, do heaven knows how we get them. Two more have mistakes on the covers, and the set isn't exactly the most coherently assembled either. For a product at £215 (and that was first announced for release three years ago), Decca/Universal are pushing their luck. Mind you, an 88 disc set from FTD would come in at £1500, so I guess I should be thankful for small mercies!
As for the Ormandy set, I managed to find one with a damaged box for £120 which is fine by me. The CDs end up on the shelves, and the boxes under the bed!
Meanwhile, I'm also revisiting the Capitol Sings series from the 1990s. There are about twenty of them, each one is a various artist compilation centred on a theme or songwriter. Lots of gems from lesser known singers, and a number of unreleased recordings, too.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Miles Davis Vol 1
Blue Note 1501,1955,the first of Blue Notes famed 1500 series which was their first batch of 12" LP's taking over from the 10" format.
A lot of the early issues in the series were extended versions of old 10" albums as is the case here with Miles taking three sessions from 1952,53 and 54 with various sidemen including JJ Johnston, Art Blakey, Kenny Clarke and Jackie McLean all who would make seminal albums for Blue Note unlike Miles who would only return as a sideman on Cannonball Adderley's classic Somethin' Else.
He would make his name though on the Columbia label.
This is pretty much in your face exciting bebop and it got the new format off to a great start with sound quality, instrumental separation and dynamics setting the standard for others .
