I have never been very fond of Dantone's interpretations,Leonhardt's meaty sound is my go to for these.

I picked up the mono LP of From Elvis in Memphis at a second-hand store today. Not sure I've ever heard the mono mixes. Really surprised at how much better they sound, which surely shouldn't be the case for something made in 1969?

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

Janis was marketed as the "Female Elvis."
Did she ever meet Elvis in person?

It would have been great if the two had recorded something together.

CT: How many times did you meet Elvis?

JM: only twice. First time I met him he still had a contract with the man before Colonel Tom and he had to finish his shows that he had booked through him. He was booked here in Danville. I met him that night. The only other time I met him was in New York. He was up there for a publicity session of picture stills and I was there to record. We saw each other for maybe 20 -25 minutes in the lobby and he slept most of the time then. So very few words ever passed between us.

Thanks! Elvis was sleeping. He must have been tired from the tour.

Little Richard's gospel is so resonant of Sister Rosetta. Of course, nobody in the universe can match the gospel by Godmother of Rock and Roll, but Little Richard is up there with the very best.

Regarding Elvis, but also other groups and artists, it’s kind of strange, but I almost never play the regular releases.
Instead, it’s almost always my own made compilations 🤷

Made the same compilations years ago and was planning to upgrade it when the 1969 Sony box was released
in 2019, but I didn’t like the mixes, so a lot of work was saved.

In tribute to Nashville songwriter Troy Seals, who passed away last month at age 86. I'd thought I'd include the Charlie Rich version of "Pieces Of My Life".

Awesome three'fer sequence with Bobby Vee's huge hit, followed by Carole KING response (who in fact co-wrote the original with her husband!) and Ralph Emery's send-up comical. Enjoy :smt023
