Had music on all day today as I've been working - started off with Blue Hawaii and How Great Thou Art. Then moved on Richard Strauss tone poems, and now Swan Lake. I think my neighbours must get very confused by my music choices!
Agreed. I guess I should have written a little more about it, rather than just posting the album sleeve. I really enjoyed the songs from the elder statesmen, which I thought might not work, when I first looked over the track listing.
The Bing Crosby song was a pleasant surprise, and I will certainly be picking up a copy of Watertown by Sinatra after hearing The Train on this compilation.
Southbound Jericho Parkway by Roy Orbison has to be a lost classic, so I may dig a little deeper into this period of Roy's career too.
It's also rather cool that the whole thing kicks of with Elvis, and the sleeve notes are informative, for those wishing to seek out further listening.
I would recommend the latest reissue of Watertown, which sounds terrific and closes with The Train, as opposed to Frank's second recording of Lady Day, which was added onto the end of the album on the previous release. As a whole, Watertown tells a captivating story that's spellbinding, thoughtful and very profound. And adding a bonus track only broke the mood when a moment's silence is required after The Train.
Thanks for the information. My dad was a big fan of Sinatra, so I have quite a lot of albums spread over vinyl & CD, but the majority of them are earlier recordings.
I'm thinking of picking up A Man Alone too, if you have any recommendations for that one?
Having read the last few posts, I am listening to “Watertown” for the first time.
I have only heard the first track, but it is unlike the Sinatra standards I have heard before.
Interesting....

Edit: completed the album. It was not what I expected at all. I have never heard an album like it, the narrative extends across the whole album. The lyrics are centred around small time life in the USA, a man deals with his loss until she comes home.
I wonder if Elvis could or should recorded this kind of work? Was it a success for Mr. Sinatra?

Watertown is wonderful, although I prefer the previous cd release to Greystone because of the copious liner notes. It's a shame it didn't sell well, but it has truly become a classic album and a cult favourite over the last two decades.
That said, I think There Used to be a Ballpark would have been a better fit on State of the Union.
Listening a n d watching it.
What a great voice and lovely songs.
Dusty was so fantastic...
Nice one, she was distant cousin of mine, so family lore maintains...
Really a relative of you? Do you have met her? Most impressive female singer to me and a pretty lovely looking lady in the 60s. A fashion icon also. She was sooooo great

No, I never did. There are still relatives in Ireland I do not know (I live in the UK). My cousin dated a cousin of Imelda May (real name Clabby) I mentioned this to her when we met. She said that this was not surprising as she has 14 cousins, but I don’t know how many were male. The point is in Ireland families were large with cousins aplenty. It is not strange that I had a cousin I never met.

Imelda May is her stage name, her real name is Imelda Clabby. She is not a DJ and is not living in Poland.

The 1975 New Years Eve show is indeed overlooked by many, as you suggest. There were so many things working against Elvis and his insecurities show. However, the show is a good and entertaining show. Elvis is terrific vocally and delivers some solid performances. It would have been special to be part of that 65,000 on that special night.

Enjoy the Pontiac show and Happy New Year!!

Happy new year for you too! And i will definitely enjoy the Pontiac show.
Watching NYE 1976, tried to sync it up so it hit the new year in the recording and in real life, it's a great experience for someone who hasn't seen Elvis or was old enough.
Live in 1969, disc 11. 26th August, Midnight Show.
I removed the monologue and edited out the “Hound Dog” preamble (“I looked her square in the eye” and all that) from all 11 shows. It took hours do all 11 and to drop the edits back into the shows, but it is down and it sounds great.
This really improves the flow of the show.
Also, made my own artwork using two different shots from the booklet. The title and Hotel logo was copied from one photo and layered onto another photo. See the attached below.

Nicely done! I prefer to listen to everything 'as recorded', but always admire people who take the time to tailor their experiences to a t! Best wishes for 2020!
CD #1 - Richmond April 10th, 1972. Fantastic show!
Beautiful kitties you've got there!
Both cats you see there have sadly passed away. They were sisters. On the right there is Alisha, died in September 2016 aged 11 and on the left is her sister Shannon, died in june 2018 aged 12. At the moment I have only one cat. I got Mina out of the shelter on February 20th 2019 aged 14. She'll be 15 in a couple of weeks on January 13th. This is a pic I took earlier today where she is relaxing after all the fireworks of last evening/night.

CD #1 - Las Vegas, August 11th, 1972 midnight show. One of my first bootleg concerts ('Elvis At Full Blast') and a great 1972 concert with a fantastic 'Polk Salad Annie', 'Little Sister/Get back', 'It's Over', 'My Way' and 'American Trilogy'. Perhaps I'll listen CD #2 (August 12th, 1972 midnight show) right after.
