During the recording of EOT there were two 16-track tape machines. MGM did not get RCAs copies. They had their own original reels. When recording TTWII, RCA used a 16-track machine and MGM an 8-track machine.

EDIT: both RCA and MGM used 16-track machines during the recording of TTWII.

Any clue as to why no one of them recorded anything on the 14th of august - as they were still filming?

Re: Young Ernst talks about "On Tour" tapes in EMM
I knew David E would come through so i guess I owe YOU an apology !
i just thought id have another 15months to swallow my pride lol
I apologise -- clearly you was correct & had solid info and my assumptions
which is all they were - turned out to be wrong !
I feel more stupid as i have the TTWii FTD set sitting there & ive barely flicked through the books & hadnt even noticed that page IS in there -
in my defence ive been busy & it took me 2 years to read the TCB book!
(i have played the audio like crazy though)
However, without trying to wrangle out of it, im still curious if there was 1 recording - ie: 1 x 16track tape reel running at a time (ran/funded by MGM) then copied & handed over to RCA ??? or if there was infact 2 seperate recordings being made at the same time ??
its a shame mgm didnt finance the 4 shows & RCA fund a seperate 4 shows from other dates on the tour but hindsite & wishful thinking doesnt achieve much !
That still seems crazy to me but there you go ! knowing what little i know about RCA and how they recorded (or not) Elvis live this IS perplexing to me but im probably over thinking it now!
have a virtual beer on me samses

swaggering, daring, Proud yet humble, beaten yet never truly down,
MAGNIFICENT when victorious and always unforgettable! "

Re: Young Ernst talks about "On Tour" tapes in EMM
So is it safe to assume that Sony does NOT have access to the MGM tapes? As the intro to Polk Salad Annie (i dont remember the date) was edited in from another date due to the tape wasn't running?

As I referred to in my previous posting, Sony has all copies of the MGM tapes.Rockin_John wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 4:15 pmSo is it safe to assume that Sony does NOT have access to the MGM tapes? So the complete Polk Salad Annie including "what you looking at back there" is released on the Legacy release as per usual release plan by Sony.

Rockin’ John - Are you referring to TTWII recordings or On Tour recordings. Somewhere, I have lost the thread within this thread.davide wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:28 pmAs I referred to in my previous posting, Sony has all copies of the MGM tapes.Rockin_John wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 4:15 pmSo is it safe to assume that Sony does NOT have access to the MGM tapes? David - are you able to confirm yet if this applies to the On Tour recordings when you say that Sony has all the MGM tapes? Thanks.

Yeah sorry, we got a bit carried away. This was regarding the recording of Polk Salad Annie on August 12 MS, 1970.
