Re: Lost in Hollywood - reconstructed celluloid masters
Something I've never noticed before. This tape box has writing that seems to suggest "Angel" was rerecorded on July 5, 1961. This may be why it is available in true stereo, while the other tracks used in the film are only available in MONO.elvisalisellers wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 12:01 am34. Re: Lost in Hollywood - reconstructed celluloid masters
I believe it relates to the tape speed the stereo transfer was made at, i.e., 7.5 ips.MysteryTrain wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 10:54 pmSomething I've never noticed before. The original session tapes were recorded at the higher quality 15 ips.
What I do find a bit curious is why only the two tracks that survived in stereo - "Angel" and "A Whistling Tune" - have their master take numbers annotated.

I really appreciate your work as I know a lot of time and effort goes into recontruction these songs and the sound is really excellent.
Just a matter of interest

what does the term "stems" mean in this context please?
also, why are there songs missing from the film soundtracks you've worked on?

Re: Lost in Hollywood - reconstructed celluloid masters
Basically, sub mixes of a larger mix, which are then [in this instance] broken down further into more precise individual audio elements.ForeverElvis wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 12:06 pmthank you very much for your work on these tracks, i appreciate it.elvisalisellers wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 1:53 amI worked with the 5.1 DVD stems.mmoie wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 1:00 pmThank you so much Elvissellers ,just listened to your latest work and as usual excellent .

To your last point, I only worked on those tracks that were furnished with notable film overdubs.

Fantastic!
Alternative takes, alternative artwork always brings out the geek in me.

Re: Lost in Hollywood - reconstructed celluloid masters
Don't think so. Wasn't Ernst Joergensen writing that the stereo master of "Angel" only survived because it was cut directly from the session reel and spliced onto the master (mixed down mono) reel of the other (now mono) masters?MysteryTrain wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 10:54 pmSomething I've never noticed before. Re: Lost in Hollywood - reconstructed celluloid masters
Yes, that is correct. The Stereo masters of "Angel" and "A Whistling Tune" (without whistling overdub) was spliced back onto one of the stereo session tapes. Not clear why this was done.tinseltown wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:58 amDon't think so. It's the whole package, 35 songs; all the credit goes to ElvisAliSellers

When your heart gets weary - time to sing a song,
But when a dream is calling you
There's just one thing that you can do...

Joe Krein interview with Sherril Nielsen: "YOU KNOW YOU FORGET HOW GOOD HE REALLY WAS. I SAID MY GOODNESS. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE WITH HIM YOU ARE SO WRAPPED UP DOING THE SHOW, BUT HERE NOW 20 YEARS LATER, I HEAR HIM AND REALIZE WHAT A GREAT TALENT HE WAS. HE WAS THE REAL DEAL.

Re: Lost in Hollywood - reconstructed celluloid masters
What a delight (as usual) !
Take for example King of the whole wide world, one of these terrific Elvis rockers from the early 60's. The way he belts out the chorus "come on and sing..." is out of this world. Although I love the way the song is overdubbed in the movie, I always regretted the somewhat tight mono sound and the lack of depth.
Till now. Sound is so much better here than in the movie. I say it again, it's a delight.
Thank you very much Elvisalisellers !
