Hard to read.
Aren't there some takes missing upwards from take 16 till 24?
Hard on eyes indeed. It looks to me the next sequence is (most likely):
14-16
17-20
21-23 (Movie Version)
24
25-26
27-29 (Master)
Slightly off topic: I think only take 28 (piano intro) upwards is record version.
24- 27 is movie version, right?

Sadly, if I am right, there is only one take of that groundbreaking record version?

I won't stretch to the BH release. Just can't justify the cost tbh. If it was for something like a King Creole release where they had found all the lost session tapes then perhaps :)

But I will get the MSG release as I love 72. I would have preferred the complete Feb 72 live recordings first but I am sure that will happen. I actually like the original MSG mix/master and think the Hi Res version of Legacy edition is the best but original LP and CD are also good. The Afternoon In The Garden was pretty awful although I played it to hell as it was such a good concert.
I do enjoy the PFAP disks as they really capture every nuance of Elvis vocals and the mixes are exciting. However, they use a mass of compression albeit applied specifically and the mixes are very narrow with everyone fixed to centre stage. They do give you a headache after prolonged listening though. It would be good to get alternative mixes/masters that retain the good points of PFAP and really open out that soundstage. And plenty of oomph to the drums and bass with JB's guitar loud and proud. Totally subjective I know - which really is the problem with having expectations for new versions of the same gigs. Being realistic I doubt I will be blown away, It will give me more options as to which version to go to though so I'll buy on that basis. Just hope the tapes are still in pristine condition unlike the recent EOT tapes.

cheers
Funny. "Perhaps "you might have bought a King Creole set if ALL lost takes were available (of which 90% would be unreleased !!!!) from that 1958 session.
But you sure buy the MSG songs for the umpteenth time (the same material already several times available) just because of a slightly different mix.
Shake my head

I am in a wrong world.
70s lovers all the way.
I wish Elvis would have skipped coming out in the 50s and just starting in the 70s as a newcomer with his dive bombs on stage at the Louisiana Hayride.
He would have been a sensation nonetheless.
I'm shaking mine. I said I would buy some recently found 50's recordings if they ever turned up. And finding KC tapes would be a dream come true. However, Blue Hawaii isn't the fifties. It's frankly a large selection of some pretty lame musical songs imo. I have all other BH releases so don't see the need to spend £200.
But I was a kid in the 70s so yes I'm a 70s Elvis fan. My first lp was Seperate Ways, my second MSG. I make no apologies.

1. I didn't buy PFAP. I do have the 2 disc Elvis At MSG SONY Legacy release. Those two concerts are in need of sound updates.
2. I won't buy the deluxe BH set. My bank account has it's limits.
3. If at some later date FTD chooses to release a Complete Sessions BH release, chances are good I would buy. If price is reasonable.
4. OR I may just stick with the 2 disc BH release FTD put out in 2009.

No one's disputing that the takes are all there. They have been available for years on various bootlegs and on the MRS set. The question is, are they from the master tapes?

According to Keith Flynn's site, takes 27-29 are record (piano) version:

People were complaining about FTD's re-issue of Hits of the '70's back in 2012, saying such a release didn't belong on the collectors label - even though the FTD was the first CD release of that title - yet remixed versions of albums that have been issued multiple times already appear to be a good idea now....
And they had every right to complain - the FTD didn't even feature the original mixes! It was just the usual 2007 remasters with the original front cover.

Thank you, Blue River. Thank you, rjm. Thank you, Ken.

Looks beautiful Davide ! 8)

For me, I have started this FTD collection in 1999, day one, and come hell or high water, I’ll continue collecting until they either stop producing or I am forced to stop buying ‘em. I enjoyed the majority of them. Hated a very small minority of them, was indifferent to or bored by, by now, quite a few ones (mainly certain soundboards… 1974-1976).

Yes, I have had my complaints about certain FTD releases over the decades, but that has never stopped me one bit. A minor but not unimportant point of interest and consideration has now become, also, the value of my entire collection as a complete collector’s package.

By acting as an obsessive FTD collector, by saving money in order to get them, and not buying a lot of stuff or other pleasures a lot of other Elvis fans did choose spend their money on, I now have a nice pile of FTD stuff, as complete as I could collect it. But still made some misjudgments, like not leaving the shrink wrap around all of the releases and instead gently pulling out the thing… I did keep all the stickers etc but I threw the shrink wraps away. Not obviously the shrink wraps of all of the FTD vinyls that are still sealed. But far more stupidly, I should have bought those FTD vinyls twice or more, just to sell them and recuperate part of my FTD costs…. And also some FTD books.

I am not good at predicting all of these things. Been lucky and/or smart in different areas of collecting a few times in my life, collecting something (like special L.E. Jack Daniel’s whiskey), or a series (like comic books..) that became very expensive years later, but that was usually by sheer luck, not special foresight. “Wisdom of the ages”… ahhh… nah not me, not really.

All of the missing takes are already out there, and have been for years. My bet is they've used these.
The flyer clearly states "The audio is newly mixed from the original 3-track tapes"

Keith
Yeah, somehow there's this niggling doubt in my mind that this will include all the audio.
Yeah, the cynic in me thinks that if all the audio was included they’d be shouting it from the roof tops. It’s like they have something to hide by not giving the track listing. But they’re not afraid to give a lot of detail on the books. Again, that’s the cynic in me, let’s hope I’m 100% wrong on this.
All the audio will be included..hope that helps.

OK. At the moment my view hasn't been challenged by anyone in the know. I'm ready to be corrected, in fact would love to be. This looks a fantastic set, and I certainly aim to buy it, I just hope it isn't let down by the audio.

Let's look at the evidence. The flyer says all audio included is remixed/remastered from the original master tapes. The author has since confirmed the complete session is included. Therefore, I think it's safe to say that this release will feature the complete sessions all remixed/remastered from the original tapes.

Great MSG release idea with a mix by the excellent Matt Ross Spang.
The one for "Prince" didn't sound like other recent mixes, and this will fix it.
Just as it is sometimes criticized, I now applaud the idea of this.
On the other hand, in the case of Blue Hawaii, it would be interesting to give the alternative option to an 8" ftd option with only 4 cds.
I hope the set serves you, but I wouldn't bet my money on it being a new Matt Ross Spang mix. The dude takes a fee, you know :sosorry: Think we can all figure out by now that FTD just serves out the PFAP mixes again. Hope I'm wrong but this is just making an extra buck out of past investments.

I happily skip both MSG and Blue Hawaii (I have opted out on those expensive book sets decades ago)...

I think both releases are unnecessary.
MSG could have been released in 7", 2CD set, it could be cheaper. I believe that in the case of MSG, there will be no significant audio improvement, compared to PFAP. But we still have to listen to find out.

Regarding the book, I see no need to release such expensive books containing the complete recording session. This was not done with Viva Las Vegas and JHR. I know, I know.... it satisfies the most addicted collectors.

When they released ABFT, it looks like 3,000 units, it sold out fast. The Viva Las Vegas book, according to sources close to FTD, had an edition of 1,500 units and sold out very quickly. JHR, on the other hand, had a 2,000 to 2,500 unit edition, and although it sold out at FTD in the month of release, the offers on Ebay and with dealers lasted almost a year after release. This shows that this type of product may be saturating the market. Buyers also have a limit on purchases.

I stopped buying bootlegs when the quantity of releases brought down the quality and the releases didn't add anything to what we already had. FTD is probably heading towards the same problem. Too many releases, expensive, adding little material to what we already have.

This is what FTD’s announcement says.

Elvis Presley: Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden (3-CD)
(Follow That Dream) Limited to 2 copies per customer/household, if you buy more than 2 you will receive a refund.

After Elvis completed a hugely successful and sold-out tour filmed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for the 1972 documentary 'Elvis On Tour' in April, confidence was high in the Elvis camp with all four shows at New York's Madison Square Garden sold out, as did the rest of the June tour. Any reservations Elvis might have had about performing in the Big Apple were quickly dispelled as the noise from the MSG crowd was deafening. The New York Times 'Arts and Leisure' headline summing up the triumph read 'Like a Prince From Another Planet'.

Elvis As Recorded at Madison Square Garden with the evening show of June 10 was a rush release later in the month and sold a million copies in the US in just a few weeks. Total US sales to date exceed 3 million, achieving triple platinum status. The afternoon show was eventually released by RCA as An Afternoon In The Garden in 1997, 20 years after Elvis' death.

This belated FTD 50th Anniversary Edition celebrates these legendary shows with remixed versions of both shows by Memphis recording engineer Matt-Ross Spang. Disc 3 contains the original press conference, recorded at the New York Hilton on June 9th.

Packaged in our 8' x 8' 'Sessions' slipcase, this deluxe 3-CD includes a 20-page color booklet, great photos, memorabilia, press conference transcript and reminiscences of the late Phil Gelormine.

Gave PFAP another listen, plenty of room for improvement on the afternoon show.
Both Afternoon in the Garden & PFAP audio lacks bass and tight drum sound incl kick drum.
Hope MRS fixed this.

So while I initially thought this release was an April fools joke..
I just pre ordered.

Damn.
