New Millbranch Release
Millbranch Music is back with its first release in 2023! After the great success of our recent CD & DVD set “Tampa Wave” we now present a completely new CD & DVD project!
“Rags To Riches – The Original Mono Mixes” is a 2-disc set: The CD includes 20 tracks from Elvis´ June and September 1970 Nashville Recording Sessions, all presented as the original mono mixes in top-notch sound! You may wonder why Elvis´ music was still mixed in mono in 1970. Well, all of Elvis’ 45 RPM singles from those days, almost to the end of 1971, were still being released in mono. Possibly because his releases were coming out of RCA Nashville, and some of the songs were only issued as singles and not so much as LP cuts, and therefore not mixed to stereo. Also, around this time, after a decade of indifference, country music radio started paying attention to Elvis again. Most of his singles from this period made the country charts.
During this period, RCA recording artists Charley Pride, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Eddy Arnold (and every other C&W artist on RCA) released most of their singles in mono. The first Elvis stereo single in the ‘70s was Merry Christmas Baby/O Come All Ye Faithful from 1971. Promo singles for Elvis´ music continued being released in mono until 1975.
As a matter of fact those single records from 50+ years ago (especially the promos) did have a unique sound which is powered a lot by a great punch. This detail in sound was for sure intended by the producers as it made a great effect when being played by radio stations back then. Still today, collectors are partly buying these promos not only for collecting purposes, but also for playing them on vintage (or new) record players, enjoying “glorious mono sound”.
Now you can enjoy all these great sounding Elvis tracks in glorious mono on this release!
The DVD in our new set has a running time of almost 100 (!!) minutes and we gave it the title “That´s The Way It Is In Motion”. While this is definitely not a re-edit of the original “That's The Way It Is” movie, it is a musical documentary of its own, and represents the album and the songs that appeared on it. And much more! Using higher quality outtakes than ever before with footage that has no watermarks or similar impairments, we are able to present it in the highest possible quality, like you are used from us.
All of the songs on the DVD are newly edited with several different camera angles. You´ll see and hear Elvis having fun rehearsing “You Don´t Have To Say You Love Me” on July 15, 1970 and also doing the tune live at the Opening Night performance on August 10, which has Elvis calling out Sammy Davis Jr.. We also included an interview segment of Sammy Davis Jr. talking about what he saw on stage that night accompanies the clip. A newly edited version of ''I Just Can't Help Believin´'' which goes from rehearsal to live is presented in split screens, using several different angles. Also on this DVD are newly edited performances of ''Make The World Go Away'', ''Polk Salad Annie'', ''I've Lost You'' and ''The Walk Through The Audience'' (which has never been edited properly before).
Added to that are several split-screen performances like ''Heartbreak Hotel'' from the August 12th 1970 Dinner Show and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. The “Little Sister / Get Back” sit down medley has been edited properly for the first time and is for sure one of the many highlights on our DVD. “Blue Suede Shoes” has been re-edited, despite its appearance in the original movie. This DVD brings you a great experience in going back to Las Vegas in the summer of 1970!
Great times to be an Elvis-Collector! Make sure you´ll get your copy of this brandnew Millbranch Music release at your favorite dealer!

Re: New Millbranch Release
The bootleg scene pretty much died when Madison quit, only Audionics have kept the flame alive, but they are not very active. But it will be interesting to follow the Millbranch team. They seem like a good bunch of people, you can tell that from the press-release alone. I hope they will come up with some great releases. Hopefully they won't return to the mono-to-stereo thing the next time they release a new soundboard.

Re: New Millbranch Release
Looks interesting. I understand that mono mixes were made for the single masters, but what is the origin of the rest of the tracks included here?

Re: New Millbranch Release
To me the VENUS label was better than Madison and they kept going on for many years after Madison quit.Keith Richards, Jr. wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 7:11 pmThe bootleg scene pretty much died when Madison quit, only Audionics have kept the flame alive, but they are not very active. The bootleg scene is now 100% dead to this fan.
Yes I wonder the same thing and I hope that these mono versions just isnt fakes.rockinrebel wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:24 pmLooks interesting. I understand that mono mixes were made for the single masters, but what is the origin of the rest of the tracks included here?
There was some great sounding 1970/71 mono masters…I`m Leavin` ++…. released as bonus tracks on cd releases from Japan around 2008 but must admit that mono recordings isnt my thing at all.

Re: New Millbranch Release
If they are dedicated mixes, it will be a great release, but I'm wondering why mono mixes would be made of songs not considered for single release when the albums were only being issued in stereo by this point in time.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 10:55 pmTo me the VENUS label was better than Madison and they kept going on for many years after Madison quit.Keith Richards, Jr. wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 7:11 pmThe bootleg scene pretty much died when Madison quit, only Audionics have kept the flame alive, but they are not very active. Perhaps the non singles masters included here may have been considered for release at some point?

Re: New Millbranch Release
Original mono releases from the mid 60s and onwards were often folddowns from stereo recordings. So where is the difference?

Re: New Millbranch Release
As great as things like "Mary In The Morning" is I find it hard to believe that being released as a single.rockinrebel wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 11:55 amIf they are dedicated mixes, it will be a great release, but I'm wondering why mono mixes would be made of songs not considered for single release when the albums were only being issued in stereo by this point in time.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 10:55 pmTo me the VENUS label was better than Madison and they kept going on for many years after Madison quit.Keith Richards, Jr. wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 7:11 pmThe bootleg scene pretty much died when Madison quit, only Audionics have kept the flame alive, but they are not very active. Re: New Millbranch Release
Maybe I'm reaching here, but I was thinking more in terms of single 'B' sides for the less commercial tracks.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 2:10 pmAs great as things like "Mary In The Morning" is I find it hard to believe that being released as a single.rockinrebel wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 11:55 amIf they are dedicated mixes, it will be a great release, but I'm wondering why mono mixes would be made of songs not considered for single release when the albums were only being issued in stereo by this point in time.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 10:55 pmTo me the VENUS label was better than Madison and they kept going on for many years after Madison quit.Keith Richards, Jr. wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 7:11 pmThe bootleg scene pretty much died when Madison quit, only Audionics have kept the flame alive, but they are not very active. We know RCA were planning to release the Mojo jam coupled with I Was Born About 10,000 years ago during 1971, so in that respect a single release for Mary In The Morning doesn't seem too far fetched...

Re: New Millbranch Release
Saw on a messageboard that some fans got this release today& yesterday.
They have probably(?) copied the Sylvia takes from Venus and made mono tracks on home pc……even I can do that.

Re: New Millbranch Release
It is highly improbable that a label such as Millbranch would possess any unpublished content apart from audience or soundboard recordings.

Re: New Millbranch Release
The releases came out almost simultaneously and Millbranch announced their CD a long time ago, so it is very likely that they pressed their album through a 24-hours service.

Re: New Millbranch Release
Do you happen to know if that's the case for the MONO tracks included on the Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4 FTD? The sound on those tracks are incredibly clear... but I don't know how to tell an original MONO mix from a stereo folddown...On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 2:02 pmOriginal mono releases from the mid 60s and onwards were often folddowns from stereo recordings.

Re: New Millbranch Release
I'd better leave this for the experts to answer But stereo folddowns can be genuine. At some point the studios stopped doing dedicated mono versions, focusing on stereo instead, as many consumers had replaced / upgraded their systems from mono to stereo by then.elvis-fan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 4:29 amDo you happen to know if that's the case for the MONO tracks included on the Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4 FTD? On topic: Has anyone received this release and watched the DVD?
