Elvis Madison Square Garden FTD box set , are you going to buy it ?

Post by Rocker77 »

I have thought about the new Ftd box set of Madison Square Garden. I have the Prince from another Planet and it sounds really good but I am sure the Ftd will be top notch. The complete interview is also cool. I was just wondering how many will get it as most have the other release already. Do you plan to buy it , I know several will buy it just for completeness of collection.

I’ve ore ordered as the AS audio has room for improvement, let’s see as Matt Ross live work seems a bit uneven.

Probably not, unless the sound is phenomenally better.

Of course. If I didn't, I'd need to track down a copy at a ridiculous price years from now, once I realized I really wanted this. Happened before, not going to happen again. Plus it's Elvis in June of 1972, which is priceless.

I've bought this on LP, twice. I wore the first one out. I bought it on 8 track, cassette, and CD more than once.

"Prince From Another Planet" was my last purchase of these shows.

Yes, yet again I will buy it. Perhaps it is foolish, but, I am a fool for Elvis, especially Elvis Live in 1972.

I'm just curious if the audio will be that much different. I always thought PFAP sounded a bit harsh, lacking high end and bass. The best version of MSG I have ever heard is the mix down from the Quadra disc LP from Japan.( click on video below - wear headphones) So much different than any other release.. Hopefully its as good as the Aloha FTD. That release sounds the best so far, I think. Lets keep our fingers crossed. I'm sure we will hear from those who ordered it any day now...

Compare that quad version of Polk Salad with the PFAP below...

Don't need headphones to hear that this is the best version I've heard.
Thanks mate!

Even if the sound is improved I won’t be able to tell the difference. PFAP sounds great to me!

I'll get it considering Matt Ross does a great job on these shows (best example is the aloha FTD), but it will be the last time i'll purchase these shows.

Matt Ross-Spang's work on the main show of the "Aloha From Hawaii" FTD release is truly remarkable and a must-have for any Elvis Presley fan. Initially, I was hesitant to listen to it because the 1998 Dennis Ferrante remix had been my ultimate favorite for decades, and I thought it couldn't be improved upon. However, after giving Ross-Spang's remix a chance, I was blown away by the enhanced sound quality and previously hidden subtleties in the performance. It has become my new favorite version.

Surely one question has to be how many times per year do you actually listen to the two MSG shows?

We have so many great 1972 concerts - such as the new On Tour remasters - is it worth the extra payout just to hear a different re-master of a show you don't listen to much.
While I really enjoy Matt Ross-Spang's work, like many others here PFAP with its 50-page book has those two shows covered for me.
To be honest, I think I have listened to them only once since I gave both discs a thrashing when they came out back in 2012.

Of course Australia also has to pay more for OS postage £15.45 / US$20 which pushes the price up.

Cheers, Piers
