The thing is is that I called shop graceland.com and they said they were sold out. That’s the reason why I went to shop Elvis. Now I just called them again and said it was a manufacturing detail.

what ever.

what on earth is a "manufacturing detail"? Could it be they have over-sold thier stock and do not have one to meet your order and someone just made uo a phrase to keep you quiet? I do hope not for your sake.
This item does seem to be selling fast.

I do not know if this will help you at all, the two stockists I know of in the UK still have stock (Elvis Shop London and Now Dig This). I fear shipping may make it expensive (as if it was not enough to begin with).

Shop Elvis kinda sucks. It seems like it takes forever to get something from them and I am in the USA. I can order from Shop Graceland and get it in 3 days. Shop Elvis a week and a half most of the time. I try to avoid shop Elvis at all cost.

I've got no problem with Shop Elvis. I always receive what I ordered in excellent condition. I'm past the point of needing everything Elvis immediately. I always preorder and receive my order within a week to ten days after the ship dated stated.

I stopped ordering from shop Elvis a couple of years ago. Shop Graceland is the way to go, cheaper, they received the product weeks before shop Elvis. I pre-ordered the MSG set and received it over 2 weeks ago.

Well, I told myself that I wasn't going to buy it...I've never liked the MSG shows, and I figured that this was just going to be something I'd play once out of curiosity and then file away. But then I read the rave reviews here, and figured I just couldn't pass it up. I'm glad that I took the plunge, because this set sounds amazing. It has to be a serious contender for the best-sounding Elvis live set that we have. And the best part is that I'm finally hearing something to love about these shows. It was there all the time...my poor ears just couldn't hear it in the lifeless original mix or the ear-splitting Prince mastering.

For anyone here who doesn't have it yet: you need this release.

Even though you've now regained your eyesight after being blind for all these years, I'm not sure we can ever be friends because you've put this in writing.

Why would I order this when RCA will just release it all over again next year for less money?

It's 800 miles from my house to Graceland, but I'm always up for making the trip!

I've got it! I've got the Legacy and PFAP too! I think the FTD is great too! It's like: "take another seat"! A different angle! Like the Memphis '74 releases! Great listen! Make your pick! :smt020 May I add: The FTD brings Elvis more up front! I like that!

Well, today, June 10, the day of the actual shows 51 years ago, I listened to the evening show (original album).

WOW! The sound is phenomenal! Elvis' voice sounds great! He was really in great voice for these MSG shows!

It's been years since I've listened to the MSG shows and today it was like listening to it for the first time but it was also like listening to an old friend, since I grew up listening to this album in the 1970's!

You've just given me a fantastic idea. Tonight, I plan to listen to the FTD edition of these two concerts back-to-back.

So not too loud on the ears? I've heard the mastering is a bit hot. I got rid of PFAP because it gave me ear fatigue.

listening to it as I type this. This and M.R.S's work on the Aloha set has prompted a question. The master tapes we worked with are the same multi-tracks as used previously. If it was always possible to make them sound this good, why was it not done in the first place?

Rob wrote:

Because then it couldn't be bought again and again and again.......

Our short-pants devotee is betraying some cynicism, let's hope it's just a passing thing. It's not the Rob we know and adore.

The actual answer about mixing and mastering differences is: progress. Technologies, methodologies, and aesthetics change across fifty years. Now, of course if an artist isn't a legendary, norm-shattering icon, a live set is not going to enjoy new scrutiny by the record company. But, as we know, Elvis is one of the few exceptions to the rule. Also he left us over forty years ago.

As for the new Follow That Dream 3xCD set, well . . . it's different. Like ol' Rob, I grew up with a copy of the original album, with many a night the headphones glued to my ears, the concert at max volume, all the lights out and me possibly going through the motions of being that guy on stage in New York, blowing them away. Presley took care of the Big Apple that weekend.

Where the lead voice is kind of direct and above the rest of the music on that LP, Elvis' singing now sits more often with the ensemble, and the voice has more reverb. You're in the arena with that voice washing over you. The band is laid out as you would have seen them, had you been there, Hardin piano stage right, Tutt and Scheff rhythm center, Burton lead stage left. You're in the arena with the band.

The orchestra shines more than I remember, especially on the bigger productions like "The Impossible Dream (The Quest)" and "An American Trilogy," and you can really feel the crowd, sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for that moment, a look, a favorite song, or Elvis just slipping in a line or two. You're in the crowd now. Backing vocals are of a piece, we don't get too much of any one singer, and that's fine.

Matt Ross-Sprang is 37. He wanted to re-create the thrill of that long-ago weekend, like so many of us, an event he couldn't have seen. He got there. And I have yet to dive into the afternoon set. But I will, soon.

Rob, you have a choice to make.
Doc, what's your opinion on the mastering? Is it easy on the ear?
