I went to Graceland a couple weeks back and they were busy that saturday. There were many fans taking the tours and enjoying the shops and food. I have not seen them that busy in a while. There were fans of all ages there.

Elvis is becoming an interesting subject to a percentage, small, yes, of a group of people the majority of whom was actually unaware of his existence before Baz' movie hit theaters and began streaming at home.

As is the case with everything related to Elvis, even if only 20 people out of, say 1,000 become interested, those twenty will certainly exert a multiplying effect vis a vis interest in the image of Elvis Presley irrespective of what the other 980 think, or dont think, or know, or do not want to know, about Elvis.

Very few ´people who have passed through this world of ours have that capacity to leave a mark that sticks to anything, no matter what, waiting, so to speak, for anyone to pick it up. The happy few said Stendhal

The lion’s share was made from box office and merchandise sales at Graceland, Presley’s Memphis home—just $5 million of that came from rights for Elvis, the Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic.The King benefited handsomely from Covid cooped-up tourists ready to treat themselves to a vacation at his Graceland mansion and resort. At least $80 million of Presley’s earnings came from tour tickets, shows, and merch, according to sources close to the estate. The estate didn’t make a ton directly off the smash Elvis biopic, but the hit film is expected to lift Presley’s earnings for at least the next 18 months as fans, new and old, look to own their own piece of the King. Even sales of Disney’s Stitch plush animals dressed in Elvis jumpsuits are up from last year.

Following the popularity of last year's ELVIS movie, and then the sad & untimely passing of Lisa Marie in January of this year,
I voiced to my wife and to some friends that Graceland could very well set an all-time attendance record for visitors this year. We shall see.

In fact, Forbes magazine is on record as suggesting that the movie could this year increase the earnings of EPE even more than last year, in spite of the movie being a 2022 release. Forbes goes from October to October, to count the earnings of the deceased. Here is what they said when EPE earned US$110m.
