It looks like that if you are just comparing CDs, but there could be various other factors that could push the production prices of the soundboard sets. For example, do Sony have to pay more on royalties for soundboards than session sets because more people are involved. Or it may be the economy of scale kicking in somewhere and there is likely to be many more session sets produced and sold allowing a slightly lower unit price of each set compared to soundboard sets. That said, it could also be argued that the packaging on the session sets would cost more but the fixed costs at the printers are likely to be the same. And it could be that FTD are prepared to take a slightly lower profit on the session sets - make the price too high and it might put people off from buying. So I don’t think it is quite as straight forward as comparing the number of CDs and Just a few things to consider.

Outside of the core components, the track layout would likely be determined by the quantity of elements that were to be recorded.frus75 wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 1:15 amThanks for the info my friend! I always wondered how 4 track recordings were made. I mean, I guess one track was for Elvis, but what went on each of the other 3 tracks.elvisalisellers wrote:Between the 3-Track HGTA sessions and the 1969/1970 16-Track transistorised console, Studio B had 4-Track [e.g., Guitar Man/Stay Away, Joe sessions] and 8-Track ["Beyond the Reef" was transferred to 8-Track at the August '68 overdub session] boards.MaestroDavros wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 7:04 am3-track. Studio B didn’t upgrade to their 16-track Ampex MM-1000 and transistor console until either 1969/1970. The exact installation date remains blurry but no later than then. I believe in 1966 they were still using the same Ampex 300-3 and tube console that had been installed in Bill Porter’s time.Johnny2523 wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 3:06 amAlso.. were the HGTA Sessions also recorded on 3-Track? or were more channels utilized for these sessions?
HGTA is an album that will benefit from a fresh remix, since the original stereo mixes have the vocal slightly off-center for some reason.
Emphasis may also be given to a key focal point. For example, the lead guitar on "It Won't Be Long" [a 4-track recording] was assigned its own track, although [oddly], it was ultimately released in a compartmentalised mix alongside the remainder of the rhythm track.
4-track also had the advantage of having more inputs, so additional instrumentation/parts could be summed to a single track.

Cheer up, Doc. Every dedicated Elvis fan has a deep respect for Ernst and Roger. I have been a member here for 20 years and I have never once uttered a negative word about these guys, and I am not about to start now. Ernst is the reason I am here in the first place - it all started with "A Life In Music", maybe the greatest book I have read about any artist. I adore the guy. However, I was very disappointed with that last soundboard and FTD's deciscion to not correct the mistake. They offerred replacements for "So High" and "Fool". Why not this one? That is all I'm asking. There may be a good reason for it. It that is the case then it would be nice to know what it is, too. I don't think this is being hysterical or disrespectful. I think it makes perfect sense to expect a CD to run at the correct speed. I am fine with slight variations that can barely be heard but that last one was just too much, and you know it too.drjohncarpenter wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 11:34 pmDon't appreciate the chiding, or the mockery, in your reply.
I'm not "knocking" anyone.
What I'm doing is pointing out that this member consistently puts down Follow That Dream releases, as well as the FTD team. The rhetoric is employed for studio as well as soundboard titles, through three different memberships and log-in names.
His goal, really, is to cause chaos and draw attention. It's exhausting.
Your defense of this "rockstar" is sad, though you're correct his posts are, indeed, "miserable rants."

Re: Hot News: 3 New FTD releases (late june 2023)
I worry about a few things in life. Probably less than most. However, I NEVER worry about a show from 1974. You also do not have to hear it. You choose to hear it when you make these purchases. Well, let me put your fears to rest, little buckaroo. I'm going to purchase this without worry or fear and I will gladly let you know how they are because I intend to enjoy them very much.
These shows were never meant to be heard by the public. There was a different audience every night, so these "similar performances" were new to the audience members during the June 1974 tour.
I know because I was one of them.

Re: Hot News: 3 New FTD releases (late june 2023)
Is this rhetoric applied for studio releases? I have only said that there was a speed problem with the Jailhouse Rock set - which there was.drjohncarpenter wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 11:34 pmKeith Richards, Jr. wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 9:34 amHey, don't knock Shane. As the recent FTD soundboard shows, the guy has a point. Not only did they ruin Elvis' performance by releasing it at the wrong speed, they also refused to acknowledge the problem, or give any sort of response to desperate fans asking for a solution or at least an explanation. So, after all these years, I have finally realized that Shane's miserable rants actually have some truth in them. Shane is not Mr. Unhappy anymore. He's a rockstar now. Well almost... he still gets carried away sometimes... or actually most of the time... but not when he's talking about messed-up soundboards.
It's easier to get in touch with Neil Young than the FTD team. Neil has issued a truckload of archive material in recent years. Two or three discs have included the wrong mix. Fans have sent their complaints directly to Neil himself. Neil has answered on his website and just admitted that his team has messed up. The discs have been replaced. Food for thought.
Don't appreciate the chiding, or the mockery, in your reply.

Neil Young, really? You fail to note he is alive, and remains an active artist, fully involved in 21st century technology and social media. You also fail to note that he personally controls every aspect of his work, current and historic.
Could this be why Young is directly responsive to his fans?
Food for thought.
You seem obsessed that I have left the board twice and returned with different logins - while making absolutely no attempt to hide who I am, or what my previous login was.
Your insinuation that there has been some form of cover-up or attempt at deception is neither appreciated or true (as you well know). Indeed, it just suggests that you are flailing around, desperate to deflect from the comments I make that are relevant and on point - and you absolutely hate the fact that others on the board have come to realise that...and that you have nothing in your armoury to change that.
Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

Re: Hot News: 3 New FTD releases (late june 2023)
It's funny that people worry about hearing setlists too often while the truth is they bought already hundreds of shows, very often audience recordings.
Sometimes the same show several times (even as audience recordings) just because this time the recording is a little less noisy.
I can't really take them serious.
Obsessive compulsive disorder and they worry about hearing similar setlists after buying hundreds of shows.

None of these are for me - indeed I just picked up a copy of the FTD release "Today" on eBay for what I felt was a fair price.
Happy for those that are excited for these.
I sure hope FTD has quality control figured out as there is so much product coming out in such a short space of time.

I already have Event #8 and while Elvis is still performing quite well, the June shows are pretty much all the same... and I have a handful of those. Besides, the 2 releases I did order cost me $233 CDN from Adrian so I have to draw the line somewhere... oh and I just bought the MSG and Blue Hawaii releases. Unless something spectacular comes out, I'd say my quota for 2023 is spent...sweetangeline wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 6:28 pmI was going to get you them for Christmas...now why not the 3rd title?? just curious
