Wow, they are really milking it aren’t they?
Priscilla’s face looks like it’s gonna fall off.
It does look good though.

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
No footage after 1968.
"Return of the King: The Fall(movie years) and Rise (68 Comeback) of Elvis Presley"
Does this mean that the doc stops in 1968

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
They might devote the final 10 minutes of the documentary to the years after the '68 Special.

It looks very similar to “Reinventing Elvis: The '68 Comeback” (2023):

It does look like a version of Reinventing Elvis, but hey, one can never have too much of Black Leather Elvis. Bring it on.

Just saw trailer on Facebook. Just the alt version of Paramount's Re-inventing Elvis. For our level of fandom nothing new. As previously said, helps for mainstream exposure for Elvis and his crowning glory and renaissance that is the Singer 68 Special.

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
I'd forgotten the "Reinventing Elvis" you mentioned. You are right but there are so many new angles to explore and I appreciated seeing the gold lame footage of Elvis (something not seen until recent years) ; the use of the "Elvis On Tour" outtakes 'great & revealing interview commenting on the grind that was the movie years and so on. Of course, the narrative is to focus on the triumph of ''68. This is an artistic "tight focus" rather than doing a blow by blow of the touring years. One can imagine a similiar series of documentaries that focus on key moments of his life, much like "Elvis '56" did on Cinemax years ago. I am sure they give a nod to the fact that he would not see another ten years.
Cruel comments about Priscilla aside (and sadly she was duped by a rogue plastic surgeon who allegedly put automotive-based filler into her face), my heart sank when I heard her chiming in. I don't see her as a benign force in his after-career and her battle with her granddaughter said something many of us long suspected --and she is just over-exposed and tends to whitewash his career with her breathy commentary.. There's already way too many talking heads on the trailer alone but Springsteen and other voices may add a bit. I just hope they don't keep Elvis a spectator to his own documentary. His art deserves not to be shown in fast clips and annoyingly brief glimpses while we see and har this or that observer.
They should remember we have a generation or two or three that are still Elvis novices. Pure takes show off the man at his legendary best. Many casual viewers of Netflix) will be experiencing Elvis at arguably his peak in a cool new documentary in 2024. The power of the '68 special is that there is no end of ways to focus on it. The "One Night with You" special on HBO in the mid-80s was such an eye opener to me and my family that I still think its a great "out of the box" converter of new fans.
I already e-mailed a casual fan (a friend since high school) who likes a lot of other music of the era. His response was an enthusiastic "I will be watching." That n 2024 we have a new piece of the puzzle is to be commended and celebrated.

I think the title "The Fall And Rise" sounds better than "The Rise And Fall" like the usual docus.

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
Thematically, the trailer doesn't suggest anything new, especially after Reinventing Elvis, which was only released last year. And whilst I wasn't especially fond of that particular documentary, in some respects, it could be considered definitive. Unless this documentary tells the same story better. Although there's no sign of Steve Binder in the trailer. Or Bones Howe, for that matter. Perhaps Binder has nothing left to say. Although he will feature in some way, shape, or form.
The inclusion of audio from Elvis On Tour is quite interesting, though, because this could add a perspective on Elvis's acting career that hasn't been present before. Although conversations around Elvis's acting career in the mid-sixties with regards to the way his career was turned around by the NBC special, do tend to be quite broad. And there is some flavour of that here.
Baz Luhrmann was also involved in Reinventing Elvis, but with the inclusion of the On Tour audio, one might hope that Luhrmann and Netflix are on positive terms with Warner regarding Elvis. And this documentary will certainly have a much larger potential audience than Reinventing Elvis did. Although I'm not convinced that it's necessary. And I'm not particularly excited by the trailer. But it might be a gateway to other things if it's successful. And there might be a few surprises in the documentary itself. I'll certainly listen to anything Springsteen has to say. But if the story being told is handled in an insightful and engaging way, it will stand on its own merits in spite of anything else.

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
Just replay your Elvis Comeback Special DVD.
This special is not for hardcore fans.
With Comeback 68, Aloha and Elvis In Concert EPE and ABG (Authetic Brands Group) have very limited acces to Elvis footage (that they own the rights to). Of that footage the Comeback 68 tells a store that suits the "brand story" ABG is building to preserve Elvis, his image and legacy for future generations. I think the way they use the 68 material each year to repeat the same story on different channels really is genius.
We, hardcore fans, all know this story, but there are generations out there who learn about Elvis through these documentaries for the very first time.
I also expect Baz Luhrmann to build his documentary (with footage of 1970 and/ or 1972) on this narrative.
Looking forward to this.

Exactly. This special is not for us. It’s for the young general public that know little to none about Elvis.Alexander wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 12:35 pmJust replay your Elvis Comeback Special DVD.

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
I got a few sponteneous texts from friends who know that I am an Elvis fan when they saw the trailer. The most common comment was on the lines of " oh my god, this guy looks/ sounds so good". Not everyone searches out for clips on YT and many young people associate Elvis with White Jumpsuit/ Drugs/ Vegas and so on.
So while this may seem redundant to us fans, for majority- given this is Netflix, this will be one of their first glimpses at Elvis at his mature peak. Add the whole drama behind the scenes and you have a truly engaging fun piece of introductions to the icon.

Darlene Love is involved so I'm all in. A performer who actually performed with Elvis (and many many others of that era)

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
I will check it out - but this seems like it will merely be a retread of well worn ground.
The lack of Binder and Howe in the trailer is worrisome if the intent is to focus on the 68 special.

It's 800 miles from my house to Graceland, but I'm always up for making the trip!

I just saw this today for the first time.
I liked it and it will be cool to compare this
with the new one released next month.

Even my girlfriend, (who likes Elvis casually), sent me a message commenting on the video (“Elvis was so Hot!!!”) LOL said she was interested in watching it!!!

Re: New NETFLIX Elvis doc…13/11-24
I guess it's another incarnation of the old fairytale. Poor Elvis was locked in Hollywood against his will. Poor Elvis had to fight against his manager, the network and everyone else. Poor Elvis was successful and saved his career, which would have been killed off by a Xmas show. That's what we almost always get to hear and that's what the fans want to see. I'm not too postitive about this Netflix thing.
