Thanks for uploading. It kind of reminds me of another story. I think it was from the famed '69 session at American Sound. A spread was put out for everyone and one of the musicians went for a couple dill pickles and was promptly informed by one of the MM that he couldn't take those because they were only for Elvis. Lol.

Not a story I've read about, but sounds completely true. Even for someone at the time who was a star on the rise, and a huge contributor to Elvis' return to critical and commercial success, was told to stay at arm's length.

Did a check of when Mac Davis played Memphis (or anywhere nearby) in the time period discussed (circa 1970-1974 maybe).

I would've guessed sometime in 1972, but I came up with only one date: Friday, September 28, 1973 at the Mid-South Fair. It was touted as Mac's first show in Memphis.

Mac Davis, in his first Memphis performance, stars in a Mid-South Fair concert at 8:30 tonight at the Coliseum.

The Stater Brothers appear with him.

But was Elvis in Memphis then?

At the time he was reportedly in Palm Springs and Los Angeles a lot.

Saw Mac Davis in 2015 or 2017 at the Graceland Soundstage across the road from Graceland - he performed In The Ghetto. Fascinating, Sadly did n’t get to meet him nor got his autograph but a thrill nonetheless.
