Behind the curtain - January 26, 1972, Opening Show, Las Vegas
Overall, an excellent show. I especially enjoy bridge over troubled water and the first live versions of You Gave Me A Mountain, An America Trilogy, and I'll Remember You. Very good sound also for a soundboard.

Re: Last Elvis Concert You Listened To Was?

These are much improved over the previous bootleg releases. Therefore, I would publicly like to thank FTD for making three more CDs in my collection redundant.

I have had the Shreveport show as a good audience recording for years and indeed it's a solid and good show!

Finished both twice now, both solid overall and both have their own highlights.

Currently watching/listening to the August 11th 1970 Dinner Show from TTWII Complete Works set. Tremendous performance all around.

Re: Last Elvis Concert You Listened To Was?
I just finished listening to "Burning In Birmingham". I hadn't heard this show for a couple of years. It seemed very familiar, though. It's obvious from the start that Elvis is fired up and more engaged than he usually was in 1976. "You Gave Me A Mountain" is a good version. But of course, it's the final part of the show that makes it special: "For the Good Times", "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", "Unchained Melody" and "Mystery Train". Elvis is really into these songs. You could argue that they are somewhat messy and unprofessional, just like the rest of the show, and you... well, you would be correct - but at least he has come to sing. And after all it is 1976, not 1972. You can not expect miracles. I think this show is a little overrated but it's definitely a highlight from this era and of course there are some rare things in there too.

Re: Last Elvis Concert You Listened To Was?
Yesterday I listened to Atlanta, December 30 1976 and right now I'm listening to the December 31 show. It always has been a little tradition for me, listening to the December 31 show on December 31.
This whole tour just has something special. Like Keith is saying, he is fired up right from the beginning at every show. I like the last two shows better because, while he still has a lot of energy, he has toned down just a little. This makes the shows more professional in my opinion. Right know I'm listening to You Gave Me a Mountain, awesome version (although he does get a little lost at the end I think). Although I already know which songs are next I'm looking forward to the rest of the show!
Happy new year everybody!

Re: Last Elvis Concert You Listened To Was?
Listened to the Louisiana shows this morning. They were good for 1976, but at the end of the Baton Rouge show, he was done. No see ya later, no you've been a great audience, no kiss my ass, just an "Adios, mother" and he was gone.
He simply seems to run out of octane.

Re: Last Elvis Concert You Listened To Was?
Maybe I'm getting used to 1976 Elvis (after spending the last week enjoying the latest outing from FTD - Louisiana & Memphis), but after my ears adjusted to going back to an AR, I enjoyed this one from SA. The sound is actually pretty doggone good. You can clearly understand what Elvis is saying when he talks to the audience - which isn't always the case on ARs. The show, it's pacing, and the song delivery is very similar to those on the shows from Shreveport and Baton Rouge a few days later. When Elvis asks for "Amen" to go on a little longer, you can tell that he's going to work a little harder to 'get his motor running' - which he seems to do and then then puts on an enjoyable afternoon show.
I haven't picked up an AR in a year or so, so I'm glad this was my trip back into the area of collecting. If you enjoy such recordings, I think you'll enjoy this one. I do want to warn you that the sound quality does drop off on the second disc - the evening show.

Re: Last Elvis Concert You Listened To Was?
I find that tour to have some solid performances. I remember really liking the Buffalo show the first time I heard it many years ago. He seemed lucid and his interaction with the crowd was entertaining. I'd love to have a soundboard of that one if it exists.. The ones from Providence and Largo seem pretty good as well...the footage that exists of them show Elvis looking like he's having fun.ORION wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:04 pmMaybe I'm getting used to 1976 Elvis (after spending the last week enjoying the latest outing from FTD - Louisiana & Memphis), but after my ears adjusted to going back to an AR, I enjoyed this one from SA.
