yes, in fact I read that there are promo singles for this around. They have to be very rare.trouble_jw wrote:Shoppin' around is one of my fav movie tunes for sure! I believe it was considered as a single release at one stage?

Yeah, you're right Pete.Pete Dube wrote:Rob, Shoppin' Around has long been one of my favorite 60's movie tunes. I even rate it higher than most of the pop-rockers on Something For Everybody.

Re: Shoppin' Around
Shoppin' Around coupled with Wooden Heart was in fact released as a commercial single in Canada as 47-7865 .
it's been in my possession since the 60's , so it's not one of those latter-day repro's .

Re: Shoppin' Around
Shoppin' Around/Doin' the Best I Can would've made a fine single. The quality would've been right up there with the non-movie singles of 1960.

Just curious, but does that record differ to the USA label?splanky wrote:Shoppin' Around coupled with Wooden Heart was in fact released as a commercial single in Canada as 47-7865 .

Is there any Canadian reference to it, or does it look just like a USA release?

No ,
it looks just like the US black labels with Dog on top , but the the low textline reads:
Made in Canada by RCA VICTOR COMPANY,LTD , MONTREAL

Re: Shoppin' Around
More questions.
Now I wonder how many of this actually sold. I would guess not many.
And did they make a picture sleeve for this release, as they did on most first run singles??
If so, that sleeve would have to be very scarce.

Always loved "Shoppin' Around." From my earliest days, I always thought that was one of his best tracks.

Re: Shoppin' Around
Fantastic song.
The album and movie of GI Blues is probably my first ever Elvis memory as a kid and this song has always been a favourite of mine as long as I can remember. THIS was the Elvis I knew when I was growing up. I loved it then and I love it now.
The other major highlight of that album is "Doin' the Best I Can". Sublime.

Re: Shoppin' Around
Always loved Shoppin' Around.
The first time I heard it was on the LP "Rockin' Elvis - The Sixties" which I bought around 1984, I didn't know that the song was from the G.I. Blues movie at that time. I was only 9 years old and didn't know to much about the Elvis facts, just loved the music and his voice...
Imagine growing up with Elvis music without prejudice from his movie songs...
I still spin that record from time to time and think it's a great compilation of sixties rockers, it always brings me in a good mood to hear these songs.
By the way: the compilation was produced by Roger Semon.
Funny to put a picture from 1972(?) on the backside of an LP with sixties rockers

Re: Shoppin' Around
It isn't "Elvis is Back," but I love this album! And I have a fondndess for the cheesy comedy and "likability" of the flick. I always thought it would've been cool if Elvis would've done "FS" and then segued into Mystery Train as a concert piece (the two are similar in subject and rhythm). Also enjoy the version of BSS. Just a fun soundtrack.
