Nevertheless it's a nice, almost jam-like performance and it's good to hear that Elvis still had fun with this song.

The two versions heard in the film seem to be off-the-cuff moments.luckyjackson1 wrote:I always wondered why he didn't SING it in "Change Of Habit"... copyright reasons?

Actually, Doc, it sounds like Price sings "Carnelle" - there is clearly no 'T' sound at the beginning of that word, and I'm listening to a pristine digital copy of the original. But, as we all know, when the Doc thinks he's correct, there's no telling him otherwise.

"Goodbye Tarnell darling" : I listened today many more times the version of the 68's special of this marvelous song and I think Elvis come with these words.

At 0:35 in the link below from '68, doesn't it sound like Scotty says:
- Would you sing me that song about toenails?

I don't think Elvis sang a song about coenails.

Re: Lawdy Miss Clawdy - what does Elvis actually sing
I always heard it as "good-bye tornado, darlin'" implying the whirl wind nature of the girl in how she treated the narrator of the song.

Another thing I assumed was "Goodbye, told 'ya, darlin'".

Re: Lawdy Miss Clawdy - what does Elvis actually sing
I asked Lloyd Price the following question about Lawdy Miss Clawdy:
"I'm told that at the end the lyric is something like "Goodbye Tarnelle darling, down the road I'll go". Is Tarnelle accurate or should that be Clawdy or perhaps Tarnel? If it is accurate, was Tarnelle a real person or nickname for someone?"
The answer I got back was:
"It's Good Bye Clawdy Oh' Darling."

Re: Lawdy Miss Clawdy - what does Elvis actually sing
Just listened to Lloyd Price's original and I understand a mash-up between Clawdy and Tarnelle - Clawdelle...

He we go again with another member who has a whole total of 2 posts on this forum and already trying to bash on DJC. Just like what was said in another topic, it's these idiots who are NOT new members, but only returning ones with different login names. - They always give themselves away every time by having only 2 or 3 posts, and already showing resentment from what they had from their former login experience.iconoclassics wrote:Actually, Doc, it sounds like Price sings "Carnelle" - there is clearly no 'T' sound at the beginning of that word, and I'm listening to a pristine digital copy of the original. I've also realized within the past few days or weeks that there are some "new" members on this forum. Not all of them but some caused quite a riot after their "arrival".promiseland wrote:He we go again with another member who has a whole total of 2 posts on this forum and already trying to bash on DJC. I think it was about the '68 Comeback Special Versions and April '72.kkn wrote:Just exactly where in the song du you hear "Tarnelle"?? I've just listened to the song again and cannot hear anything but "little darling"...at least in the original studio version

Re: Lawdy Miss Clawdy - what does Elvis actually sing
I agree with promiseland here..., being a part of discussion is what this about. If we disgaree, fine. Can't people stop with the petty, childish insults? DOC and NO ONE deserves personal insults or attacks. Stick to the topic please.promiseland wrote:He we go again with another member who has a whole total of 2 posts on this forum and already trying to bash on DJC. Re: Lawdy Miss Clawdy - what does Elvis actually sing
Wow, I've been a long time reader, so I know all about the Doc's ways. I've recently signed up - for the first and only time - sorry to break it to you. Every user here had only two posts at some point, yes?
Anyhoo, thanks to the real answer from Lloyd Price posted above, we do know that "Tarnell" is incorrect, and that my hunch about hearing the word in question start with a 'C' on the original is correct. Clawdy, oh darlin' it is!

That's the way I've always thought it sounded on the sit-down shows.JamesVRoy wrote:An inside joke, Scotty told him it sounded like he was saying "Goodbye toenail darlin" so when they used to perform it Elvis said that and they'd smile or laugh.
