Just found this online, never seen the image below before ... have you?
It was taken while Elvis was on location in Hawaii, filming Paramount's "Paradise, Hawaiian Style." Apparently a lot of it was shot at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Northern Oahu. He would visit there again during his March 1977 vacation. Note: the photo is actually from mid-August 1965.

Singing star Elvis Presley spends one week at the Polynesian Cultural Center filming a portion of Paradise Hawaiian Style. "The King" transposes PCC's signature song, Bula Laie, written by Fijian Village chief Ratu Isireli Racule, into Drums of the Islands as part of the production. (Elvis is pictured at right sharing a Maori greeting.)
Can't say for sure if I've seen that pic or not, though I think I have, but, I can say I was disappointed when I visited the Polynesian Cultural centre.
Nice photo, and a very catchy topic title! Thank you.
BTW, cool new avatar.

I expected the Polynesian Cultural Center to be something of a tourist trap when I visited. And it was. Yet, the meal we were served and show we enjoyed ("Aloooooooo-ha!!") were wonderful. Did I ever kid myself into believing I was having an authentic experience? No. I enjoyed it for what it was and they did a good job.
EPE finds itself in much the same position these days at Graceland. How to provide the avid Fan --and random tourist -- with an experience they will both enjoy.

I take great satisfaction in thinking of Elvis revisiting the Polynesian Center 12 years later.
He lived such a short life .... It's wonderful to consider an older Elvis visiting favorite Hawaiian spots
in his 70's, the way some of his contemporaries have done (Tom Jones, Engelbert, Mathis, Anka, etc.).
I very much enjoyed the Polynesian Cultural Center when my wife and I visted on our honeymoon (25 years ago this June). She, however, was less than thrilled when I insisted on singing the Hawaiian Wedding Song to her during our little boat ride.
I really enjoyed it when I took the wife in 2011, it was an enjoyable experience to see how all the tribes came together. The meal was different but to each his own on that one, there was a good floor show at the end of the day, if we ever go back I wouldn't do the tour again though

I have always been disappointed that any pics from Elvis' vacation in Hawaii in May 1972 have never surfaced. Other than those pics of him on the flight heading home. The only pic i have ever seen was a pic of David Stanley on the beach with Lamar. Maybe Elvis was not in a picture taking mood??

Only just seen this reply...well, my 2 1/2 year old Son at the time, heard the drums from the Amphitheater (Drums Of The Island) and his face lit up and excitedly said "Dad, I wanna see Elvis" !!! bless him, he thought Elvis was there in person...given his age at the time I think he can be forgiven.
One of the movies that Elvis' wardrobe was terrible.....at least the pictire sleeve of the Soundtrack LP is great...but hey its from 1963 FUN IN ACAPULCO , love the back picture cover too
Thank you very much DOC for this topic and picture

The location for this ceremony at the Maori meeting house was thanks to dancer, actor and choreographer Jack Regas. He was credited on the Presley film as the "stager: musical numbers."
Jack Regas - circa 1966
His current career found him choreographing and directing countless productions, including a current one at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, and doing choreography for NBC-TV's "The Hollywood Palace."
Tomorrow evening's performance of "Sounds of Polynesia" at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie will mark the end of the Center's summer season.
It will be the final Monday evening performance of an entertainment attraction that has been presented in 49 performances since the summer season opened June 12.
"Sounds of Polynesia" will continue on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings until it is replaced by a new Polynesian show in December, Lester Hawthorne, general manager of the center, announced.
Hawthorne said the summer series of the popular show has drawn nearly 35,000 paid admissions since it opened in June.
"Sounds of Polynesia" is a collection of music and dances from the six Polynesian peoples represented in the Cultural Center. The two-hour entertainment package is staged by Hollywood choreographer Jack Regas.
Showtime Wednesday is 8 p.m., with all seats reserved, Hawthorne said. Beginning with Wednesday's performance, showtime moves to 7:30 p.m.
The Center's popular Polynesian buffet will continue to be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each show night, he added. Reservations may be made at 299-291 or 933-431.
