Never heard that version of "My Babe" before.Great find.
I always found it to be so sad to hear that "Class of 55" album and see the clips of Carl,Roy,Johnny & Jerry.Roy should be there but it always seems like he was just a place holder for the man who should really be there. And we know who I'm talking about.

I had heard the Midnight Creepin line before but can't remember what on, it was a while ago, if u like the locomotive rhythm of This Train take a listen to the new Ruby Turner version with Jools Holland, it's on Spotify!

The image is one thing and the human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image, put it that way.

I have heard it before but thanks for posting it Mike.
A little short and unfortunately bad sound but nice to hear.
I wish someday a soundboard from Elvis engagement in Tahoe 1971 will turn up.

New to me, very nice thanks Mike.
I enjoy Elvis' My Babe, but Little Walter's original is still the best.

Little Walter based My Babe off of the melody for This Train (a gospel tune) so it is no surprised Elvis slipped it in here.

Talk about a rarity. Wow!
Thanks for posting!

You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.

The song My babe was recorded with the title "Mercy babe" on 14-07-54 by Little Walter on Checker label; this version stayed unreleased at the time.
The original version was recorded on 25-01-55 by Little Walter & his Jukes (Checker 811).

Great medley and Elvis' voice is really powerful on My Babe - as good as the 1969 versions, though a little short. The 1972 performances of My Babe feature much weaker vocals from Elvis.

It's such a pity that there are no soundboards and few audience recordings from the 1971 Lake Tahoe season. The shows sound incredible! The performances of Jailhouse Rock are also really good - the last time Elvis could perform the song well enough.

"A song from my recent TV show, which was pretty bad, but you know... you can't win 'em all!" - Elvis Presley (August 25 1969 DS)
"My favourite guitar player on lead guitar, say hello to James Burton. Young man on rhythm guitar; he's fair to mediocre, John Wilkinson." (February 19 1970 MS)
"My mouth feels like Bob Dylan slept in it." (February 21 1971 MS)
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, my name is B.B. King" (August 16 1971 MS)
"Ed Sullivan looked at me and said "mmm, son of a b**ch." Nah, he's a nice... old chap." (January 27 1973 DS)
"I'm allowed on stage for 55 minutes to 1 hour. That's what they say. I say about 35 minutes!" (March 22 1975 MS)
