George Smith is beaten to the punch ...
Sadly (for me) it seems that a researcher has published his findings before the publication of my book.

For those still interested, the epic background story remains fascinating ... there's still a tale to be told ...

A coincidence, do you think, or someone who saw some of your trailers and set out to do their own investigation?George Smith wrote:Sadly (for me) it seems that a researcher has published his findings before the publication of my book.

"I Forgot To Remember To Forget" strikes again . . .
Naturally, I'm still looking forward to buying your book, George. I hope it's out soon.

Re: George Smith is beaten to the punch ...
Thanks for your kind words about being scooped.
It was a possibility I've lived with for about five years (when I discovered Krolik's story), knowing that someone else could publish before I had written the full story.
I was (and am) still intending to publish the book because this revelation is just the "Who" ... there's still the why, the where and a whole much bigger part of the tale that remains to be revealed.

Thanks for the link!
What a pity. But remember, your's is a book, this just an article. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people who will buy the book, even if they know this part of the story.

That article may cause some more interest in the topic from your potential readers who want to learn more.
Re: George Smith is beaten to the punch ...
It's evident from your promos that this is an interesting aspect of your book, but by no means its only focus. I would think that most who were planning to buy the book, myself included, are not at all put off by the Rolling Stone article. I do understand that it's disappointing for you though.
I encourage those in the Elvis world who might reference the RS story on their websites to also link to George's home page/Facebook page for his forthcoming book:

Couldn't hurt to tell your readers that more detail is on the way.

Re: George Smith is beaten to the punch ...
My dear friends, I am overwhelmed by your support and encouragement: Thank You.
Interestingly, my younger son has also expressed his firm conviction that the Rolling Stone article will perhaps act as a springboard to greater publicity -- who knows?
I am happy to tell you that Krolik's story is just one revelation contained within the book and, as those in whom I have confided will verify, the part of the project I have personally found most rewarding is the story of how the song actually came to be written.
The Tommy Durden / Mae Axton tale is remarkable and, for long-term fans, I suspect that this will be the real meat within the book.
Hang in there, folks: you ain't heard nothing yet.

Re: George Smith is beaten to the punch ...
I presume, George, that the book is still scheduled for release this year. I do realise, however, the pitfalls of stating a more precise date.

Yes, Steve, I do still intend to publish this year but I'm unable to be more precise because I'm still polishing, correcting and improving the work.Steve Morse wrote:I presume, George, that the book is still scheduled for release this year. I may never write another book and I dearly want this work to pay an appropriate tribute to the genius of Elvis Presley.

Re: George Smith is beaten to the punch ...
Good for you, George. I bet many authors, with hindsight, wished they had done the same. But at least, I presume, you are under no deadline or pressure other than your own desire to 'get it out there' in a form that you will always be proud of.George Smith wrote:Yes, Steve, I do still intend to publish this year but I'm unable to be more precise because I'm still polishing, correcting and improving the work.Steve Morse wrote:I presume, George, that the book is still scheduled for release this year. I'm with your son on this. You might even make use of this Rolling Stone article in one way or another and have a (promotional) follow up article in Rolling Stone yourself.George Smith wrote:

I'm currently talking to the author of the article to see how we might pool resources. It might come to nothing but, hey, nothing ventured nothing gained.
